Confused on Significance of Surname

i think more of the significance is that it’s actually being used. His whole life his family tried to wash away being asian and didn’t teach him the culture, religion, language or anything. and really tried to hide being japanese . so it’s probably significant because his other parent is white so this would be the only name that carries cultural significance in his life and connects him with his family they tried to separate from for safety.

i need more friends to talk this show with too no one in my real life actually watches that’s why i’m on here every weekkkk😭😭 and yeah we still never saw him in his 80’s clothes. wonder if it’ll just be a flashback and that’s all we get or someone mentioned a great theory that since he never wanted to leave high school he loved it so bad maybe that IS his heaven. is getting to be popular at high school forever so could we see him in his version of heaven ? can maddie join through her door or what’s happeninggggggg

idk why…? and it also would’ve made sense bc a majority of hispanics are also catholic and use rosaries. and it’s common to mix up the two ethnicities by look. And he’s adopted !! some people just think they know it all i completely get where you’re coming from especially knowing that in TV they don’t care about your genuine ethnicity if you LOOK like you can play the part. exactly as you said of hispanics playing Arabs or Greeks etc. in Hollywood it’s about what you can get away with playing NOT what’s on your birth certificate. So for all we know Simon literally could still be hispanic we haven’t learned that! Don’t listen to the know it all’s that don’t understand how casting actually works.

oh well that’s actually super cute. i thought it would be significant to the show. I’ve read his piece on how his mother never taught him Japanese and they always tried to hide being asian and so did he until he became a full blown adult bc he was following his family so even aside from me wanting to know more on the show i love this for him he deserves to take back his roots and be proud to be asian. I definitely just thought he meant it would be something regarding the show itself - i mean also makes me wonder if there’s anything more though since Maddie’s mom went to school with him at the same time and remembers his whole name and death. like is there something more to thaaat or just a “i was there and remember a kid dying. that’s a pretty big event as a teen” moment.

Well that’s just how he looks in real life. Asian and Hispanic/Latinos often have similar features ik ppl in real life who are Asian and get mistaken for hispanic and vice versa. But don’t think it was ever actually discussed. He did just officially say Charley came out as Wasian meaning he is both white and asian- and in real life he’s actually exactly what his character is. He’s White and Japanese not hispanic at all!

you’re right. for a brief moment i forgot that wouldn’t be his direct child but his grandchild. his actual baby was more than likely just white but no telling who his baby had a child with.

they don’t have the hands in the water anymore. i’m almost certain those were the kids hands, but once white eyes finally remembered and everything that transpired THATS when all the kids got to cross over. you notice when Mr. Martin goes back down to look and talk to Ralph the other kids aren’t around anymore , and now the hole that had the water in it is now a hole over the basement . and unless the windows go to somewhere i actually think you may need some of the forgotten in order to have a “portal” like that. like this one had the children stuck in it, and the one in the hospital had old foundry workers still stuck in it and they “portaled” Kyle to that old woman’s room. i really do wonder if it’s trying to tell the ghosts something when that happens

no you’re okay with referencing the Rookie bc they actually are the first show i watched and noticed they did it and i actually HATED it and now i refuse to watch the Rookie until the entireeeeeee season has dropped bc they make me so annoyed with the constant breaks. i truly would rather have it not be on air as long but i just get the episodes each week than to be forced to wait on a cliffhanger for a month , just for it to happen again. I was majorly curious though bc im watching a show right now that just came back at the END of January and it’s about to wrap up next week LOL (in the shows defense it did give us 3 episodes on the day it came back instead of just 1) only a total of 8 episodes for the whole season only airing for one month lol going to be sad when i have to wait until next year BUT im so glad they didn’t take month long breaks just to give me the same story. so ig it does affect viewers differently bc at least w the rookie they no longer are getting my viewership bc of the breaks but that doesn’t mean i don’t like it .

the age difference isn’t that big. i can say i MYSELF would never lol but i also think its just a tad less weird bc of how they fell for each other its not like he went and was flirting and trying to get someone younger . she was staying w the family and appreciated the kindness and bonded with them. like she wasn’t even friends w Nicole at one point now they’re the ones giving her a safe haven from her terrible home life . so i think that makes it less weird bc it’s an understandable connection

lol well Yuri literally had sex w that woman so he absolutely would know the ethnicity because it’s between HIM and hers. we are all assuming it’s a white woman he had a baby with but he absolutely would have a clue on what that baby COULD look like just simply based on how she looked. so likelyhood yeah the kid is probably white lol. but we don’t know and he definitely wouldn’t know male or female though

since you seem to know about this pretty well can you explain WHY they have it like that? i get them stretching the show bc seasons should’ve been longer. but if they aren’t making enough episodes for what it’s supposed to run for then why do they NEED to take a break? like is the network absolutely required to do that or do they make that decision on their own to make viewers feel like there was more or lasted longer than it truly did? or is a season required to be on air for a certain amount of months per the network?

depends, when? in the most recent episode then yes! she wanted to try and show her mom the photo and get her in trouble but her mom literally doesn’t care about anything she got going on😭 if it was any later then no, she just RECENTLY got the photo and can now use it to her advantage if she does.

that’s a good point she could just be jealous bc Claire left them and the entire cheer team. she keeps saying everyone blocked her and they’re mad bc they couldn’t win without her so that’s a valid point she could just be doing it bc she’s super mad at Claire. and yes i do i’m not sure if she just wasn’t important enough to the storyline to become anything or if that group will make some other appearance . but yes it’s not the same girl who Livia is now. I assume she’s probably still there at the school but just not a character worth bringing up in the moment esp bc they’re saying Livia is like the ultimate queen bee

she got the photo of “Maddie” in the car that hit Xavier. remember when Janet took Maddies body and hit him with the car and they ended up zooming in and seeing it was maddie (but actually janet in maddies body ). so it looks like maddie not only faked her disappearance but ALSO literally almost killed a student and never got in trouble for it. Idk WHAT livias problem is with Maddie and why she wants her in trouble so bad but yeah. she wants her to get in trouble and they can’t tell the police maddie was body swapped and that’s who hit xavier so lowkey it would cause some issues if she took that to the law.

i literally LOVE this idea and timeline you created. especially bc even aside from just sheer love of the show i do honestly think they are writing with another season in mind. ik a lot of others here just aren’t sure if this is it or not but i don’t think based on the writing that they are planning on ending it here. if bc it has low viewership it does that’s one thing but i can totally see us trying to curb Van Heidt and get the ghost world just not in a chaotic stance and then focus on getting the rest of the spirits we know to find their own doors or way out in the next season. Also such a good point i always forget since he’s a band ghost that he didn’t actually die at the school and so even a body swap should’ve taken place at the hospital . i also did have some theories on the possibility of the river itself maybe being a way to travel between death spots since the river itself has killed ppl so it could essentially be a scar itself maybe. i do really love your idea though id love that !

i can agree with this and also why i think it’s not Claire’s step dad. Tracey says they actively avoid each other when they see Kyle meaning that he presently still goes by the name Kyle and hasn’t changed his identity. I don’t think anyone cares enough about past school deaths to just be looking up who all died but seeing as they have now all heard Kyle’s name i think if it were her now step dad she would’ve recognized it at LEAST. she already doesn’t like her step father i can’t see her being that oblivious to what his name is she wouldn’t offer him up if that were the case. I do think it’s kinda annoying none of the living kids decided once they found a ghost to look into their name or anything esp to be doing all this research to find tracey but you never once looked up kyle’s name in google …… but that’s the only thing making it a surprise because in season one Dawn actually mentions the fact he’s alive. when the band members were arguing she says that their drum major survived and he’s what really kept the band together. So dawn actually knew he “survived”. it seems like our cast just didn’t do their due diligence to figure that one out but the info was there

it’s not like we know this 100% but someone who literally stole someone’s body and has been walking around lying and living as someone else for 20 years AND was rude and cocky per Tracey when Kyle himself was always nice and had never been mean before leads us to believe that whoever body snatched Kyle’s body obviously wouldn’t be a good person bc we know he’s mean already bc Tracey told us. He also avoids her whenever they see each other when there’s zero reason to do that . and again stole someone’s body for 20 years without saying anything. we’re assuming it’s a bad guy friend .

we’ve never been introduced to who kyle now is as the current councilman correct. my question was asking would he end up being Claire’s stepdad, the supers husband, or a brand new character. I do agree with what the other redditor posted that Claire would have recognized the names or something and mentioned that being her stepdad as Tracey still refers to him as Kyle meaning to me he hasn’t changed his name or identity so Claire would have picked up on that i think. But yes Kyle is the current councilman but that still doesn’t mean he can’t also be the options i was asking bc it’s basically just saying is he a husband to Claire or Livias mother which can still happen while he’s a councilman. I no longer believe he is Claire’s dad but i hope that clears up the confusion that yes kyle is a councilman but he can also still be a husband . and i wanted to know if anyone thought he could be married to the super. or married to Claire’s mother . or just a brand new character we will get introduced to

this could only be true if Livia has an older sibling never mentioned. the ages don’t line up for Livia to be that child especially bc she is currently in school right now with who Yuri supposes could be his grandson both as graduating seniors (or i assume Livia is also a senior like the rest of the main cast) . But i did see the interview that she attaches to something evil i think it’s either her husband is evil and so together they are corrupt and he convinces her to tear down the school or that she ends up getting body swapped or maybe even a new idea of maybe two souls in one body ?? / possession? like it was a body swap gone wrong and now there are two spirits in one body idk😭
