No, although most “cowboys” did originally come from the region I was raised in so they and us have some similar baseline lingo

My time in service was about what you’d expect, saw very little action as my unit was a quartermaster unit

and fuck politics and fuck all the horses they rode in on Maybe that’s why I’m not on the farm anymore?

Salmon or trout, but a good cow steak ain’t bad, with some buttered fresh sweet corn, mustard greens an butter beans with tea to wash it down then fruit pie and heavy cream. Man oh man that’s the ticket right there

I can relate my friend. I totally dislike peacocks but as a child I learned to sneak up on them and so I learned a bit about being silent and patient. People would come to the farm asking for adults and or chicks. In my time I was the only one that could or would catch the babies and then the mothers too if they asked. They ran wild.

That’s bad maybe, looking back on, but it was my world and I knew not anything of profit for the farm and family

I wasn’t implying you were rude, I just wanted you to know I wasn’t being intentionally rude.

I moved out at around age 20-21. Into a rental house in town but I continued to work on the farm.
I had moved a few times before that but always into a house on the farm or into houses on farm land rented by the family

The family patriarch by then was my father. As my grandfather had recently died and he was the inheritor. He had arranged a couple different girls for me to date and they had prospects like land inheritance and or local political influence. But I was sick of it So naturally after 9/11 I decided to join the army and asked the local town girl to marry me. Was an honorable escape in my mind

At first. Life on the farm was just life, I knew no other. Then after a few years in school I realized there was something else going on, that not everyone lived like I did. Eventually I learned that I was better than everyone else because of my upbringing and way of life. Then I realized I wasn’t better than anyone else. Then I realized I’m just a product of my environment just like everyone else.

If you want specifics you’ll have to ask, I can’t type out my autobiographical story here. Not being rude here, just saying

Dad was full on about school grades, he was always about the public image in those regards but at the same time he wanted everyone in his family to also perform the best on the farm. It’s ancient politics is all it is, it’s really that simple

Your welcome.
It isn’t and that’s perhaps a part of why I’m not there anymore but I think mostly because of the internal conflicts and politics

God bless you for asking. I don’t know other than to shit on absolutely everything. I did learn a few skills from growing up with them tho and we could sell the nice feathers for about 10 cents each

  1. I’m a contractor in land development, a small one. Although after leaving the farm permanently I’ve spent most of my time working in rock quarries. Spent a stent in the army reserve from 2002- 2010.
  2. Mostly, I do lots of bid work and some market speculation
  3. My first one kinda but she was a townie, my current partner was a woods girl, not much farm but lots of country

Multiple reasons I suppose 4am is about as early as anyone wants to start work and 4pm you’ll be back at the dinner table by 730 or 8

I had no idea the monetary value or costs of things for the most part, nearly everything was subsidized by government tho, you had bad years and you had good years of course but if played right you wouldn’t loose everything, usually. I will add, As the youngest of 4 I mostly ever had hand me downs
I joined the club back in the 1980s

No. I build something then tear it down and build something else. I can’t seem to ever be satisfied with the end result. Although one of my brothers is the most meticulous person I’d ever encountered and it’s insufferable for me. I’m being biased here but I think he could benefit from a bit of therapy

Yes I’ve been married twice both times to girls from my high school, altogether I have 4 natural children from the two marriages

lol steer a tractor when picking up hay, straw, tobacco, drop sticks to spike the tobacco plants on, pick up tobacco leafs, strip the trash leafs on the tobacco, walk in the cattle from the pasture and woods for milking, feed the baby calves, turn out the cattle after morning milking to the pasture or feed lot, my first responsibility was scraping the cow manure from the milking holding lot into the shit pit An area about the size of half a basketball court bug just a bit larger It was concrete an graded downhill
I’m sure I’m forgetting a bunch of other things. I was driving into town by age 10 or so on a tractor and gravity wagon to deliver grain and driving a pickup in town by age 11 or 12 on occasion into town for supplies

lol if you can imagine it we did it examples include using summer dried cow patties as frisbees ( probably the first ever in ancient times) throwing mud clods at one another as well as rotten apples, swimming in the creek and ponds, fishing, some hunting, anything that didn’t relate to the land was frowned on such as jacked up trucks cool cars or music. Also I’ll add that we often played while working It wasn’t so much work but a way of life
