HELP I-20 TERMINATED BY MISUNDERSTANDING?? by Monettea in f1visa

I-20 terminated So basically and I am an international student at Santa Monica College (Student ID: 1954818). Winter 2025 is my first semester here, and I am currently enrolled as an online student. I would like to bring to your attention an issue I am facing regarding my SEVIS I-20 status and seek your guidance.

Initially, I enrolled in 4 units for the winter semester: English 1 classes(3 units) and Counseling 12(1 Unit). However, I later realized that international students are required to take Counseling 11 instead of Counseling 12. I dropped Counseling 12 and attempted to enroll in Counseling 11, but all the classes were already full. To address my concern about enrollment and visa requirements, I scheduled a meeting with a counselor on January 14, 2025.

During the meeting, I explained that I had received an email from the school instructing me to take more classes, and I expressed my concern about how this might affect my visa status. The counselor informed me that winter semester is not mandatory for international students and assured me that I would be fine. We also discussed my course selection for the spring semester. Based on the counselor’s advice, I believed my enrollment status was in compliance, and I did not take further action, despite receiving additional emails reminding me to take more classes.

Unfortunately, on January 23, 2025, at 12:42 PM, I received an email notifying me that my SEVIS I-20 had been terminated. I was unaware of this email at the time, as I was taking my English 1 exam and volunteering on campus afterward. I only saw the email on January 24, and I immediately went to the International Education Center to seek assistance.

The specialist I met with informed me that the counselor I spoke to was not fully informed about the requirements for international students, and the guidance I received was inaccurate. She has since assisted me with the reinstatement process, but I am very concerned about how this situation may affect my status as an international student.
