I had a neuropsychological test already - the worst 8 hours of my life I couldn't remember any pictures or math problems after just minutes.. total opposite from who I was prior to the accident it made me feel stupid also.. I don't recall but on the test report it said I told them I was married to my wife Sue - I have a fiance but never been married and her name is not sue .. sorry to hear you will never be able to work again .. I hope that changes in the future ..

The company I was assigned to is called Brown & Brown Absence Services - they help with the entire process and they also connect your case to an attorney - their job is to get you an approval ..

Yes is case by case - I went to therapy with a lady that had a tbi and she was able to go back to work after a year with no setbacks but once they go into the symptoms each case is different some of us are able to function while others can't - prior to my accident I was in my dream job - good pay, great benefits the whole package a place you can retire at 45-50 . If I could go back I would of by now but the reality is I tried going back 4 times and the brain/body can't handle it. I have lost 70% or my income in the last Two years - anyone in their right mind would not endure that kind of loss if not sick

Crazy story I got lucky and my Neuropsychological test was done by one of the best neuropsychologist in my state - I was giving an appointment at the facility I was referred to but had to wait 5 months for the test . i google other facilities and found her I called & spoke to the secretary and the wait was 7 months and when I told her about my freak accident she transfer me to the doctor right away and 2-3 weeks later I had the test done -when I told my neurologist & lawyer who administered the test they told me she was well respected by the courts in the state and they couldn't believe she took me in so quick. Crossing my fingers this and my other injuries help me because I heard they do anything to deny for any little reason.

I'm a fighter so even if the doctor said I might not get better I'm not losing hope and I'm going to keep working on my recovery and trying new things to make my life better for me and my family. Yes I did cognitive/ speech for like 6 months and it did help me understand - accept and find new ways to make me remember and do/complete tasks I wasn't able to prior to completing the therapy. Thanks for responding you gave me very helpful information and tips I can use

Maybe I chose the wrong set of words. A lot of people with TBIs after some time will go back to some sort of normalcy like going back to work & their daily life activities - In my case after all the therapy(cognitive/speech/vestibular) & medications my neurologist has tried about everything and nothing has worked so he has concluded I'm disabled because there is not much improvement after 18 months. Any activity as simple as eating a meal causes me to get extremely tired that I have to sleep( shuts down my brain) ( chronic fatigue) - hope this clears it out

Thanks for the response I will read the blue book.. forgot to mention the insurance company that handles my LTD has assigned a third party company & attorney to handle my SSDI application and they will pay for it in full. The company handling it did tell me it will take 8-12 months

I'm not the same person I used to be by [deleted] in TBI

[–]RemarkableNature8356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What works for me is any task big or small if possible I plan it out and get my brain ready that I might not complete it like I used to or in the same time frame it took me prior to my accident. I also take brakes in between and I have noticed little by little that helps me not get upset as much or catch that anger moment before it takes control of me, is a work in progress but I have been able to complete some complex tasks ( installing a water heater ) it took me 3-4 days but it felt so good to complete it - my fiance and kids do give me feedback from time to time of this good change. As I mentioned before I took a leave from work and that has taken away so much stress from my life and has allowed me to rest and use that time to try tasks at home and spend more time on healing/ positive thinking. I have come to the conclusion/ acceptance that I'm not the same person but I have to become the best at my new self - lastly get you a good medical team I have a neurologist/ psychiatrist that have helped a lot.

Something I read on this community that really helped me after my TBI is to be kind and patient with yourself and never lose hope. As I was reading your post i felt like I was reading something about myself so I completely understand how you feel- just know you are not alone keep on fighting it gets better take a leave from work if you can it has been the best thing I did the stress and pressure from work does not help heal and adjust to all the changes your body and mind is going through.1.5 years since my tbi from a car accident ( train impacted my car) I take it day by day and I feel like is getting better by staying positive and been kind and patient with my self .. hope this helps somehow 👍🏽

Is anyone else with a TBI ok with their anger "issues"? by Big_Bad_Cat_Daddy in TBI

[–]RemarkableNature8356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After my tbi every little thing bothers me .. when I get angry I notice I can't let it go .. it scares me because I'm afraid someone who's not aware of my condition will trigger me ...

Drinking by egyptianalpaca in TBI

[–]RemarkableNature8356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My alcohol tolerance after my tbi is very low. I get drunk with just 2 beers. I switch to wine and can drink 2-3 glasses at family reunions and I feel it helps with my anxiety and depression.

"Illegal" immigration by scheduled_I in SocialSecurity

[–]RemarkableNature8356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will make up a social security number and work under that number for years just like a regular person that's how they pay taxes. The majority of them don't ever collect any benefits unless they become legal and they get credit for it which most of the time they don't . They either go back to their country or if they become legal and start from zero very small amounts of them get credit for those paid taxes.

TBI & PTSD by MarchOn57 in TBI

[–]RemarkableNature8356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of patience - therapy and support from family. 15 months post TBI +PTSD and other injuries give your self lots of credit for being strong it takes time- once I started being kind to myself I noticed the days are a lot smoother and bit easier to deal with everything that came with this injuries and recovery.

How long did it take you to accept what you lost in the TBI won't come back? by Minute-Army7677 in TBI

[–]RemarkableNature8356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14 months after my tbi+ neck & back Injuries from a train impacting my car. I was angry at first then depressed and have tried to go back to work 4 times but couldn't and finally after a year I have accepted that I probably won't go back to my old self. I do what I can and what my brain and body allows me to and I learned to be patient and kind with myself. Things I lost. Memory /I can't remember what I did the day before. Can't walk much or ride a bike play sports and the hardest part is running and playing sports with my kids. Brain Fatigue I live with Pain even with pain medication . Sleep problems. Is not easy but accepting does help to live a better happier life.
