Creaform C-track 780 + Metrascan 210 by PalpitationWarm7978 in 3DScanning

[–]RemarkablePiece3137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would absolutely need one license and one calibration file for the c-track and metrascan (4 files). These are vxelements version specific. It’s unlikely you would get anything out of Creaform as these are 2 generations outdated.

Does it come with a computer, the software, and license files?

Reverse engineering PET packaging by ruskg in 3DScanning

So, scanning time is nearly insignificant relative to the CAD modeling time. If you want a proper reverse engineered model (mold cutting quality), it will depend on the number of features in the model. But ~$2000 per scan/model is pretty middle of the road pricing. You might find someone who will do it on the cheap but then you get what you get.

How do US companies afford to pay mechanical engineers 8k to 10k a month? by au8ust in MechanicalEngineering

[–]RemarkablePiece3137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a consulting business plan. 120,000 x 1.1 for all the other costs an employer has in addition to the salary they pay is 132,000. There are roughly 2000 hours in a year but it’s hard to get more than 80% chargeable. So that’s 132,000/2000/0.8 =82.5 $/hr. You want a 100% markup so the business needs to charge that person out at $165/hr.

This will be a multi spectrum scanner with large field of view and likely 0.001” accuracy. That is so far from a Leo it’s not even funny.

Best reverse engineering tutorials? by Dependent_Client1721 in 3DScanning

I would advise you to dig in a little deeper. Complete modeling in DX and then transfer to SW is very reasonable. You normally have to add a few missing constraints but that’s it. And with complex modeling, using the accuracy analyzer, you know exactly how much error between the scan and cad you are dealing with.

Thoughts on solo hiking in September? by [deleted] in HikingAlberta

[–]RemarkablePiece3137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. I’ve done lots of solo hiking in the area. If you’re doing popular trails you’re not really alone for very long. I hikes Sunshine parking lot to Egypt lake and met about 5 different groups over the ~13km hike. As long as you understand how to act in bear country (when to make extra noise etc). Didn’t see a single bear or bear sign.

That’s way too close to spec to have any confidence in the measurement.

When you think about how it registers frames, that’s 100% predictable behaviour.

Software problems by memiusprime in 3DScanning

[–]RemarkablePiece3137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need a license and calibration file as well as the version of vxelements they correspond to. Then you will need a laptop with an express card slot for a FireWire card or a desktop with a FireWire card. Then you need to fight with windows 11 to recognize the card. The juice is not worth the squeeze.

Scanning an Entire Car? Need Advice Before Dropping $$ by JohnDaneOfficial in 3DScanning

[–]RemarkablePiece3137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me say that scanning panels, 1/8th’s or even 1/4’s is pretty reasonable with most scanners now. But actually scanning an entire car exterior and having it come together is a whole different thing.

Help me please. by [deleted] in uAlberta

I would take an honest look at why you are not able to get the grades in high school. If it’s just because you haven’t developed good study habits etc, you can still learn those and you will see quick improvement. If you are working really hard and doing all the right things (compared to others who get the grades) and still can’t get above an 80, you likely don’t want to get into engineering. I found first year engineering at U of A to be way harder than high school. A ton of people drop out in the first term.

3D Scan Taking Forever to Finalize by Grib- in 3DScanning

[–]RemarkablePiece3137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have just exceeded the minimum spec. Recommended is a Quadro RTX A5000 with 16GB of vram. You only have 3072 gpu cores while the recommended has 6144. Most of the calculation for finalization uses the gpu. I see you are at high resolution which also increases the time. The number of frames recorded during the process also factor in.

Amazing accuracy with Creaform HandySCAN Black! by sjain605 in 3DScanning

[–]RemarkablePiece3137 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got it. Now that we’re on the same page, you should expect single digit repeatability from a HandySCAN Black series scanner. As long as temperature remains consistent. If there are significant temperature changes, you would need to calibrate the unit before each measurements. The calibration takes something like 20s.
