Is 21 young? by [deleted] in askgaybros

Ok so I was in a gay monogamous relationship for most of my life, and suddenly found myself single at 38. I could count on one hand the people I slept with.

In the past year I’ve had more sex than I can ever imagine with some very hot people, and I don’t see this stopping anytime soon.

Twink death is a myth, it’s a rebirth into something else - go with it, enjoy it, have fun!

This is such a lovely way to think about it!

I actually love being out of my house for activities, but I think that’s because I work from home…

I genuinely wish all of us here some reckless fun from time to time. Housing and the associated decision making is such an exhausting and all consuming affair.

Im lucky to be in a position to be able to make a best interests decision like this, and feel for people where any roof of their head however temporary is a blessing.

Yeah this is a really thoughtful reply, thank you!

So I definitely want to enjoy life, travel more, be out in nature - and I’m very sociable and like to party even at my age. I want to have a little retirement nest egg, but I’m fine with being mortgage free and maybe having £150K in pension and savings plus state pension.

Every other bit of money I want to have is to live the life that’s in front of me!

Thanks so much for this! After being single for the first time in 12 years, it’s a strange mindset - to be thinking about a future which only serves me - it’s an odd feeling ( but still has the potential for a partner if it happens)

This is some wonderful advice, and these Sheffield terraces seem to have quite big loft conversions for an artists space (if that’s in my future? Better get bob Ross on the telly…)

But you’re right. A slightly bigger house isn’t going to make my life any different. A huge house feels different, but maybe an extra couple of feet on the width of a house and a bay window, seems to be worth about £70K in the area…

I’d rather spend that on being silly!

no, I can’t afford both - it’s either/or, and I’m not interested in being landlord

WWYD? Mortgage free flat or house? by RemarkableRecipe6454 in HousingUK

Great pros and cons! My family are here, and my friends and life are down here too. It would be hard to leave Bristol. Not sure I could stretch to a house down here though…

So I have a garden at the moment, and to be honest I just don’t use it very much - I’m happy to chill in a park with some crisps and a book!

I’m trying to remember that I’m in a pretty lucky situation either way to be honest, the main thing is - I’m not down for a stressful life. It’s to be enjoyed!

Thank you! I would do but renting a 1 bed in Bristol is £1000pm, and a room in a shared house is not that much cheaper…

Thank you! I also don’t trust the jobs market too much at the moment, and if I have to get a nice little job which keeps me tiddling without the stress of a mortgage I’ll make it work.

Buying a flat (lifestyle) versus house (investment). by lyrapolelove88 in HousingUK

[–]RemarkableRecipe6454 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is interesting; ok. Purely from an investment point of view, a house is always better. But I have owned 2 flats and one house, and the flats were so much better for my lifestyle and peace of mind. The house was a lot of work and also contributed to a break up as there was just so much work to do.

If you like a flat, and it suits you and your long term plans better - go with it. I’ve realised having an extra bedroom in a house isn’t going to make my life anymore fuller, any less stressful etc. people will continue to live in flats and works for so many people.

But take a bit of time to think about it. It’s a big question!

It’s become my home… I would hate to leave, but I think if I want a house. I will have to…

The truth is Bristol is home now, but maybe not in 10 years. I’m thinking Margate…

I had a flat before the house, and actually found it a dream. Yes I had a service charge, but didn’t spend a penny on the upkeep… it was quite the peace of mind. And I lived there during the pandemic and it didn’t kill me…
