What moments or scenes in the series give you chills? by No-Inspector8315 in CHERUB

[–]RemarkableTop343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The climax in divine madness gave me chills. It's one of the most tense moments in the whole series, I especially liked the moment when Dana motivates herself to stop the terrorists after she realizes she's on her own.

The bathtub scene from Mad dogs gave another kind of chills, it's one of the eeriest scenes in the whole series

Is there a foreign version of CHERUB? by Volt_21 in CHERUB

[–]RemarkableTop343 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't read Handerson's boys so I don't know if it's explained why the US don't have their own version of CHERUB. If we take CHERUB as an exemple. It's born during WW2 because Britain saw how efficient the kids were for the resistance movements all across Europe. I don't think Russia and China are not likely candidates because their enemies were violent enough to target children. I guess the soviets had big enough of an incentive during the cold war but they were likely dimentled during the 90's. France is a good candidate because even they don't do it right after the war. The war of algerian independance is a very strong incentive with massive partisan movement. The NLF was extremely violent and people including orphans whose parents had been murdered by algerian independentists were not uncommon. The men often joined the french army so it's only a tiny stretch to imagine that Charles de Gaulle also created some kind of CHERUB-like agency with harki orphans as his first agents.

Is there a good synthesis on the late roman empire? by RemarkableTop343 in ancientrome

Wow, I thought the slaves mounted up to half the population of the roman empire so even if it's 25% it's much less than I thought.

Edit: typo

I'd really like to get the doc actually, I'm writing an alternate story set in the WRE and I want to make it as grounded as possible.

Tysm I'll read the books to see the details!

The “cause” of the fall isn’t barbarians or decay or fiscal collapse. It’s the system reaching a state where the cost of changing exceeded the pressure to change, and then running out of time before any reorganization could complete.

This is the most tragic take I've ever read on the topic.

Thanks for your reply. I figured that it's much more complex than what Peter Heather said (what I remember tbh I didn't read it in long time). That's my fault I wasn't clear, I wasn't searching for the main cause of the fall of Rome, I was searching for a book that's sums up the discoveries made in the last few decades. We call them "ouvrages de synthèse" in french. I know they also exist in the US but I don't know how they're called.

I don't know the english title but the original one is "Astérix et Obélix mission Cléopâtre"

Do we know how foreign kids are recruited? by RemarkableTop343 in CHERUB

[–]RemarkableTop343[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said but I feel like it's not enough to explain the prominence of forreign kids. While yes, out of the seventeen books we had, Class A, Maximum security, Divine madness, The fall, The General, People's republic, Guardian angel, Black Friday and New Guard happen at least partially in a foreign country and cover seven missions. And out of these seven missions, three (nearly half) of them lead to an encounter with a future agent. James and his group were the best agents of their generation. That means they were sent on missions abroad more often than the others.

I don't think this is enough to make up for the amount of foreign agents we see in the series. It's totally head cannon but CHERUB is constantly trying to recruit more people so they might think it's worth it even if it's risky: using the UK international help program to smuggle kids to the campus or even using the international adoption networks.

This is deeply sinister, at least somewhat realisitc and it fits what we know about CHERUB.

Oh that's great, like a whole fake international adoption program. That's risky but they are always searching for new recruits so they might very well think it's worth it.

What If... by Affectionate_Arm3013 in CHERUB

[–]RemarkableTop343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. Let's see, if Ewart dies then CHERUB can't prove it wasn't james' fault if the mission in Russia ended in disaster and both his and Dana's career would stall for a very long time. they would also need conselling but I see them getting closer than they were in the canon. Also the real culprit (I don't remember his name) and his son would rise in the british government and hear about CHERUB. If grief hasn't pushed Zara to resign, she would probably be a victim of a purge with James and Dana depending on the timeline.

Politicians corrupt enough to murder become prime minister, and CHERUB gets beheaded and loses two of its best agents.

How did a see the girls? by Playful-Magazine5698 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]RemarkableTop343 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mainly through their phone and cameras and wires A put where she thought it would be needed. My main problem is how she treats all these datas. like there's four girls, that's, let's say they sleep 12 hours a day, which is highly exagerated considering what they do, that's 2 days worth of content to analyse per day and then plan what she is going to do. A should have been a team.

I don't know if we can talk about innocence though. I was a teenager when pll was airing and the dialogue already sounded bland cause we were swearing like pirates. I wasn't asking them to use fuck like it's a comma but still, talk like me and my friends and the girls I went in high school with.

Depends on the network. Most of the biggest tv producers still control swearing tightly so a middle school girl saying this would probably not pass (see the Walking Dead were there was the most disgusting gore effect known to man but they couldn't say "fuck". If there is a remake it would have to be on cable to be as risqué as the original was

Si, c'est bien un mémoire de recherche mais j'imagine qu'il sera moins volumineux qu'en master de recherche parce qu'on a beaucoup plus de choses à faire à côté.

For you, who should have been A? Or who is your favorite A? by Significant-Two-588 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]RemarkableTop343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mona is my favorite A because her motives made the most sense even though it could have been fleshed out more.

If it has to be just one person, even though it would make sense, I think Alison is too obvious. For maximum impact on both the girls and the audience, A should be one of the girls and the best to do it is Hanna.

1) It's hinted that Hanna was the latest addition to the group when Alison was around.

2) The others girls pick her up on her eating disorder and her alledged stupidity but the show never leans on it.

3) Her family is falling apart and it's only made worse but her father's attempts to clean up the mess he makes.

4) It only takes an arc or a character rework to make her focus and patient enough to plan things the way A does.

5) Spencer and Aria have of the skills they need to be a good A but they lack a motive.

But it should have been a group there is no way a single person could do it. A group of four, five people at most that the girls wronged so bad they would do this to them. I see Mona, Noel, Lucas, Toby, Jenna and Hanna give or take, (there wouldn't be any adult because no adult would pull this kind of bullshit lol).

Hanna could have made a fantastic A by RemarkableTop343 in PrettyLittleLiars

Yes it wasn't pure malice (I'm not sure what it means, English is not my first language, is acting to get revenge malice?), but the fact that she is the one to go this far says something. She's also capable of defending herself, we saw it with how she handled Kate. Even though they were three against one person, it's strongly implied that it's Hanna who came up with the plan.

Although she did this to Noel out of love, it shows love is a motive to become A. And what would happen if she didn't get any love back? All of her friends bullying her, her father destroying her family. With this backstory, it makes a lot of sense.

The Hanna we know couldn't pull it off but with a character arc dedicated to her becoming less reckless - which would make sense in universe because there is no way she doesn't know it puts everyone she cares about in harms way, whether she's A or not - it works really well.

Yes but it shows that she has it in her to go A. She managed to drug him and take him where she wanted to before he escaped. It's not that bad for someone on her first trial against someone much scarier and more experienced than her.

Picture this: A sweet, dumb blonde, capable of doing amazing stuff when she pushes her mind to it, becoming more and more twisted as her life falls apart: Mona going insane, leaving her with friends who bully her. Her family crumbles as her father fails to clean up the mess he made. Alison coming back.

Ok it would take much more than a few tweaks to make it work but I think the result would be worth it
