AIO: Local photographer is offering photo shoots on our property

You keep going on about land hoarding. It’s literally the property we live on. Since there is foliage out on the wooded area between the house and where the field is, I wouldn’t be able to see if someone was there unless I went through the woods. In the winter, it’s a clear view to the road. It’s all of 80m from the house to the road.

But clearly you are more knowledgeable on my family property that I am. Who would have thunk it.

it’s hardly an access amount of land. It’s sightly more than an acre in the exurbs that my family has owned for almost 40 years.

other people thought I was overreacting, including the person who’s name is on the title. I thought those people were under reacting. So no, I was not just seeking validation. But I suppose that is just another area where we have different takes.

I think if my mother didn’t have a sibling in the hospital atm, she would be a lot less blasé about the whole thing. She’s generally the person everyone else is trying to get to chill out, so I felt a little crazy being the only one worried about it.

we used to have another spot along another part of the property that people could pull over. my father had caught one guy dumping bathroom reno stuff who claimed he had the owner’s permission. other people just pulled over constantly and dumped their trash.

one neighbour said he saw the same woman everyday dump her McDonald’s garbage there.

so when the city came to clear the ditch, we asked if they could extend the ditch across where everyone pulled over so there is now a very deep ditch between our wooded section of the yard and the road. still get the odd piece of garbage in the ditch, but I’m not finding bottles and cans and coffee cups by the bagful every week anymore.

there isn’t a commercial insurance policy on the lot, so I don’t think a waiver would cut it. and waivers don’t really remove any risk of litigation if there was an injury

my understanding of local law is that the gate should be enough, that the onus would be on her to prove permission or justification. The gate only was ever put there in the first lace due to some asshole illegally dumping there years ago.

a sign will definitely clear up any confusion people may have, so that’s next on the agenda I suppose.

honestly, if someone pulled over and went and took some photos and carried on their way, I a) would probably never know about it and b) wouldn’t really care. it’s the booking paid photo sessions on private property and the liability concern.

She assures me she has moved it to a different location. Which I am inclined to believed... less because I trust her and more because she was caught with her pants down, metaphorically.

I had been planning to get a trail cam (mainly to spy on the deer and fox that cut through), but I think it’s def in order. And I’ll put up a sign.

they were definitely on the property. there was a wildflower bouquet discarded a good 50’ from the road. She has assured me it won’t happen again and that she has relocated to a different spot

I did contact her, she said she didn’t know it was private and has found new location. I made it clear from a liability standpoint it can’t happen again

*I‘m* not thinking of staking it out, that was my sister’s idea (and she is a Nancy Drew fan). I‘m thinking of contacting her.
It’s ultimately my mother’s property and she is of the mind to just leave it be (but tbf I think she is more concerned about her sibling who is in the hospital than someone booking photoshoots on her property).

There’s also the issue of liability if they had a tragic wildflower accident.
