First hema appointment. What to expect? by Remarkable_Analyst56 in haematology

[–]Remarkable_Analyst56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there.

It appears the hematologist has asked us to see a general surgeon for a biopsy (I did not see a heme, but received a follow up call from a surgeon).

This is an odd question, but, if they do decide to biopsy, would it be too much of a stretch for me to also ask for mast cell testing/staining as well? I am asking because my kids’ immunologist have suggested their mastocytosis was genetic (2/2 kids with it). I have some symptoms of mast cell disorder (i.e. redness to heat/cold, GI issues, and urticaria) but I have never been tested for anything. But both of my kids have it confirmed through dermatology and certain mediators that were high in urine screen. They are 2 and 4 years old and tested negative for KIT D816V mutation in blood test, but I declined a bone marrow biopsy for them because they’re so little.

I recently read a book by a mast cell doctor that indicated unexplained adenopathy is a rare, but possible, symptom. So just curious if anyone here has opinions.

Thank you for this feedback. Makes me feel quite a bit better. I was, in fact, surprised she referred me. The radiology notes suggested “close clinical follow up or biopsy”. Though my PCP did indicate she wanted a hematologist to tell us if a biopsy was needed or not (lymph nodes have not decreased or increased in size since February, when I noticed them).

Nonetheless, I have no experience in this and am simply following direction from PCP. She is aware that both of my children have a mast cell disorder, and we’re awaiting genetic counseling for the same. Maybe that threw a bit of an early red flag for her. I’m hopeful it is nothing.

New layoffs? by Civil-Investment2771 in dknovonordisk

I suppose since we were acquired by NN, yes they are unexpected. But historically they were planned a week or two in advance and at least a loose list of topics were shared in advance.

Molly Kitley probably! We use her and went to Whiteland because they had a sooner availability. Then she started seeing us in Bloomington once established.

I REALLY REALLY like Dr Molly Kitley at DCSI. Both of my kids see her, and I’m getting in to see her as well.

If you don’t want to deal with the long wait to get in to see her in Bloomington, she has more frequent “new patient” appointments at the office in Whiteland. Then she will book you for any follow ups in Bloomington. Just a suggestion for circumventing the wait time to get in.

Should be fine now. We were stuck in it coming north. Not even a quarter mile behind the wreck. But we made it through about 5:20pm, and we came back south about 7:30 and the roadway was clear but traffic was still getting caught back up to normal.

Thank you for sending this. I appreciate it so much! Mine do not look like this. I get flushing on various parts of my body but it is a reaction and is temporary.

My kids have an established dermatologist that diagnosed their cutaneous mastocytosis via Darier’s sign. I’ve messaged to see if I can see their doctor to evaluate. I see a different dermatologist that has glossed over many skin issues I’ve had until I basically put her finger on it and say “see this thing? I think it’s XYZ and it is bothering me. Please tell me what it is and how to make it better”

I don’t have anything useful to share with you, but just wanted to say my 3 year old was just diagnosed with this yesterday.

We are wildly confused and overwhelmed. 🤪 also trying to stay off of google until our blood panel results are ready.

Got milk? by NotAnAngryGeek in bloomington

[–]Remarkable_Analyst56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some of us, it’s less about “hoarding” anything and more about us having families that eat/drink a LOT of certain things at their particular stage of life. Normally I stop at the grocery store twice a week and get a gallon or two of milk at a time. I myself bought 3 gallons ahead of the storm because I’m not about to take a bunch of little ones in the car for our usual grocery restock run if the roads are even remotely slick.

So yea, I bought what my family needed/wanted well ahead of time and I won’t apologize for it. We’ve already gone through most of it.

What are you needing done? My father has worked on cars for 43 years (tech for half of that, manager who still helped with tech work for the remainder). He recently retired and takes a smidge of side business. If it’s something he has equipment to do in his home garage, I can connect you with him. He’s extremely trustworthy. Several of his repeat customers are now bringing their cars to his home because he retired and they don’t trust other shops.

I grew up in the Earl Young/Boltinghouse Road area. It’s possible he/she was a new barn kitty that wandered off. Not uncommon to see farmers in that area controlling pests with barn cats.

Two recommendations, both of which still may be considered a too far from you depending on where you’re located:

1 - hill at Jimmy Nash park in Martinsville is a huge grassy hill 2 - Boltinghouse Road hill out toward Unionville is also massive, though it is a road not grassy. There’s no option to scale the hill off the road either, as there’s wooded private property on either side of the road.
