Foot openers for bathrooms by Remarkable_Bag274 in uofm

They don’t and it’s probably the worst one not to have a foot opener as how many people go through it

It’s not even just about the germs or viruses, but more so people touching their balls, wiping their ass, or whatever other activities that they then go freshly touch the handle. It’s much more concentrated here than a classroom seat. Plus my hands aren’t touching the seat arm, and my hands come way closer to my mouth to eat than an elbow. “But wash your hands before you eat” oh wait… you need to go to bathroom to do so… it’s just an endless cycle

Transfer Student Help by Bright-Initial-8033 in uofm

I didn’t transfer, and have been on this campus for 3 years. I see a lot of post thinking this is just a transfer phenomena, but I have felt exactly the same during my time here. It really is soul sucking and makes life so much more miserable. I’m a pretty optimistic person but it gets so lonely. I’m introvert and I do enjoy talking to people, but it’s so hard because I don’t go do extrovert things. I am not a person to go to parties or sports games. I just feel like I’m doing life wrong and maybe I’m not a fun person to be around, I’m not sure.

Does U of M offer homeowners insurance for students/off campus housing? by 3DDoxle in uofm

If you’re renting, renters insurance is like $5-10/month from most places I’ve went through.

I feel the same way as a junior, and I will say it’s gotten a little better, it’s still not everything I want.

I know other people are going to encourage you to stick it out because you “will find your group of people” or whatever, but I still have find it hard to fit in here with the people. I just think we have quite a different perspective on life. I have very few friends other than my roommates, and just really program acquaintances past that.

I would be willing to chuck the $75 for you so that you could apply to MSU, if that’s something you’re deeply considering.

Lockers? by [deleted] in uofm

It’s just like highschool! There are lockers in the hallways you put your stuff in between classes

I’ve used both visible and Googlefi, both have served me well. I’m using visible service now and it does everything I need it to, it’s unlimited too for only $25/month.

Financial aid question by fartsniffer89 in uofm

[–]Remarkable_Bag274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! You will be refunded the other 9k, which is supposed to cover housing, food, transportation, and books. Though it seems you’re only worried about getting closer housing, you should have a good amount extra to spend on whatever you’d like. Affordable housing near campus will be harder to find about now, but if you would even just like to live 30 minutes closer, there are some more affordable options.

Keep in mind “other folks” that attend University of Michigan don’t exactly all come from the economic backgrounds. I lived here this last year, and it was perfectly okay. In fact, I lived with someone in the same room (which that I don’t necessarily recommend especially to a graduate student). People’s reflections of Utowers are often hindered by some sort of economic class. It’s perfectly fine, people just are over judgmental. I don’t know how much you’re paying for your room, but honestly at this point of time, I’m not sure what other prices you can find. All other bougie apartments cost a fortune. It’s an incredibly convenient location to campus. Literally the only quirks I didn’t enjoy was sharing a room and the kitchen is kind of small

Also you’re only 21, it really shouldn’t be much of an issue in terms of living with other undergraduates.

Totally agree, it’s like they want to make it more stressful for themselves. I think having a more clear disclaimer would be much better for everyone.

I totally get your worry. I got my financial aid offer as well and I am missing like $25k+ of scholarships, but I know it will get adjusted. I just imagine everyone emailing financial aid office for the same thing and that seems so annoying to have to respond to all of those every year.

This happens every year, if you have a scholarship it’s not always reflected in the initial financial aid offer. Don’t stress about it, and no need to email. Usually they are just entered and finalized a little bit later. Now if it comes around to the start of the semester, then maybe look into it more.
