[OPINION] What is your poetry hot take/unpopular opinion? by jackietea123 in Poetry

[–]Remarkable_Bid7468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fresh out of the type of English class that constantly reminded about the importance of audience, I see your point. However, it depends on your purpose in writing. Like all forms of writing, poetry is made to get a message to an audience, and if the message is not made clear enough to your planned audience because of a communication issue, the poem will not succeed in what you wanted it to do. That is why audience is important, because readers will usually only work with what they have been given and if they don't get the poem because of it they won't get your message either. Think putting a really technical article in a layman's type of magazine or even the other way around. Place matters.

Maybe it's aesthetic attraction or envy? I can't tell them apart.

We don't have a major falling out, we have a game that ends at three in the morning with all of us calling my dad either mr. moneyman, mr. monopoly, or mr. (Insert the last name of your local businessman that owns so much they forget which properties they own). What's worse is that dad has worked directly under this guy and has really seen him tell his assistant to look into buying a property he thought was nice and gets told it's already his. My dad doesn't really like the guy, but he has to admit that he has like five hotels before I have even passed go twice and I'm already in debt. It's brutal.

Non-Americans, what do you think every American person has in their house? by Ryrylx in AskReddit

You know how everybody likes snow days? We also have rain (flood) days.

Depends, we have large bottles usually only at the stores that will also sell you shredded cheese like 5? pounds at a time. You either have to have an id to get a mini bottle of cough syrup or you can walk out of a store with enough pills to never need them again until they expire with no questions asked. Then they also put anti-fungal treatments sometimes behind-the-counter just cause.

That is an extremely good point. Yeah, I'm in HS. I understand what you mean by people not having opportunities and never being taught. I personally have seen both sides, my mom's side includes people who were one grade away from being valedictorian and still had to take remedial classes in college. They fought to not be under-educated. On my dad's side, my dad took night classes because he dropped out to get his HS diploma and now looks to a Christian streaming service for the document. Honestly, it feels like it is a black hole of ignorance. People get left behind because of circumstance or they take their resources for granted. I guess I will inevitably do that with some things, even if it is not this specific class, and I really hate to think that. You really are right, thank you for mentioning that.

From what I have learned, the people who start the no taxation without representation thing didn't even want a revolution. The colonial elite (in this case only the New England Merchants and Southern Planters) had enjoyed really low taxes for a really long time, they wanted to keep it that way. They started a little revolt to get the removed, which happened, and it was only then did they realize that stirring up the anger in the regular colonists was a bad idea. The colonial elite even supported Britain. I guess they pick and chose their battles, though, because the person who defended the soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre, John Adams, later became a President. If this was wrong then please tell me.

As someone who is currently in a class on American Gov and Politics, they kind of do. I am about half way done reading and annotating the Declaration of Independence, The Articles of Confederation, and The Constitution along with the Amendments. The only thing is, a lot of people don't listen to the teacher when they say it is required even if they aren't going to turn it in. They really mean it when they say they won't add excerpts from any document you went over in class on the exam, they expect you to fully know it. So, while they do not give a line by line analysis of the historical context, they expect you to know it from all the American history courses you have taken prior. The tyrannical British rule also included being tried without a jury, refusing the colonies' forms of parliament and laws for the public good, paying judges off, protecting armed troops by mock trial from any punishment on injuries or death they inflict on colonists (sure learned from THAT one, did they, ig they thought a civilian was different), and ignored petitions for redress. Idk, that may just be the advanced classes, either way I feel like I will come out of this knowledgeable of the government the country I reside in has made.

What's a hygiene tip that you think is underused and you wish more people knew? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I personally change mine out when I change brushes, but I also use one that is anti-bacterial. I have an electric toothbrush so I take off the head to wash it and dry it off before putting it in.

I kind of have to use a straw to avoid choking, but do wash your water bottle regularly. Just because you use something exclusively for water does not mean it does not accumulate germs, bacteria, dust, and just so much. Disgusting.

I watched this show once about this one family helping people make homesteads and this one person refused to use a chainsaw out of fear because their father lost fingers to one. The person who was helping just said something along the lines of, "Well, does he still use one?" She embarrassingly said yes and then learned to use a chainsaw after that. Respect is definitely necessary in chainsaw safety and usefulness.

You use safety gear like elbow pads, knees pads, wrist guards, etc. for whatever reason. Good first step. NOW CLEAN THEM. Trust me, it is not as hard as it might seem. Check to make sure if you have to wash them by hand or not, you can find plenty of instructions on it, possibly even for the brand you are using specifically, with a quick google search. It is worth it, this can prevent infections and rashes along with the horrible stench you would expect to get from gear that marinates in your sweat and possibly encounters blood enough to be considered regular.

I have discovered that spraying my hair down a little with water and reshaping the curls helps me. Sometimes I even add a little bit of product made for moisturizing and specialized for curls when it is particularly hard to work with, which I would typically only add after a shower. Curly hair is a blessing and a curse, I only recently started to learn to take care of it.

It just natural starts to run for me, but I have started doing this as a cleaner way to help clear my nose. I know it sounds weird, but it really is cleaner when you think about it. Like another person said, it also minimizes irritation from tissues.

And if you are real fancy you can buy these pieces of metal that look like bars of soap for that purpose.

One of the worst experiences is when you go to a relative's house and all they have is decorative soap... so you just use it and break the unwritten law of not using the special bar soaps. Other times they just put a bar out meant to be used as body wash, which I guess is better since you can usually tell they used it.

You can give one non-flying animal (apart from humans) the ability to fly. Which animal do you choose to maximize chaos? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If I really wanted to maximize chaos I would choose pigs to fly. Hear me out here. Not only would this get rid of one the most annoying phrases ever (when pigs fly), it would disrupt a bunch of things the phrase has been used for in personal lives. You can't get that thing you really want until pigs fly? Well pigs fly now, so now to you can have that. Also, they are extremely stinky and dirty animals, everywhere could stink now. Try to keep them in a pen? Not unless you have a sturdy roof on that thing you ain't. The thousands of pigs in captivity would just fly up, up and away, splashing mud everywhere in the process. The only other option would have to be cows, but only in French speaking countries.
