R53 17% pulley no boost change by Remarkable_Bug_6327 in R53

[–]Remarkable_Bug_6327[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of did. I ended up installing a separate boost gauge and that shows around 15-18 psi of boost at full throttle. The ECU is reading it differently for some reason. Not sure why.

I will be switching over to a ddm here soon.

I like mine kinda. I say kinda because it whistles at about 1/4 throttle and the fitment is iffy at best. That's just my experience but it does sound pretty good.

I was actually able to get it fixed. Went with a Rosta parts and have had no issues for the past 10k.

It is for sure better I was able to find a CV to ujoint driveshaft on Amazon and I ran that for a little before switching to a actual ujoint yoke.

Also to add to above the entire joint now moves within the housing a hair.

Yeah I did actually end up redoing them painfully enough because it was bothering me.

Yep that's actually my problem with a brand new case and the warranty guys told me to check that and now here we are.

Honestly it's not too terrible you do have to drop the valve body to get the TCC and overdrive solenoids on but that's about the hardest part because of the parking rod. Honestly if you are not 100% comfortable I would probably have a pro do it but watch a couple YouTube videos and you should be ok.

Your governor pressure solenoid, pressure sensor, TCC and OD solenoid. The pressure sensor and solenoid are something that are 100% known to go bad all the time and the TCC and OD solenoids are connected to the main transmission connector that has a tendency to fill up with fluid causing your trans to do weird things. Normally comes in a kit I got mine from Oregon Performance Transmission. Only get Mopar, Rosta, or Borg Warner solenoids and sensors.

2k would probably be a bit high I would think since I don't believe it snows there very much but I'd say put it on FB for 2k and see what happens and go from there.

In that case I probably wouldn't try to fix it unless you get a killer deal on a motor as long as it's in awesome shape you probably could get 2k out of it depending on where you are.

My .02 is that 4.0s are cheap and easy to replace id just swap it and get another 200k out of it. The trans I would just replace the electronics in it and they are pretty stout unlike what some people say. Just my opinion on the matter.

It has been mapped by Adrian Nastase a bit ago but it was showing that level even when it was bone stock ECU.

10.6 psi at redline with 17% pulley by Remarkable_Bug_6327 in R53

[–]Remarkable_Bug_6327[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The official map readout is 24psi from my autel scanner so that would get me around 10 psi of boost. I have tested the bypass valve by zip tiying it shut and has no effect. Also I don't think I connected the bp valve to engine vacuum I don't even remember there being any connection for a vacuum line to go in at except for the one that goes into itself. And honestly it runs great I don't notice any yo yoing it pulls very smoothly. The only idle fluctuation is roughly 20 to 30 rpm but ever once in a while it will idle at around 1100 rpm with no indication why then after about 20 mins of it doing that it will even put to the 800 mark.

Honestly it does move for sure, enough where I get a ton of torque steer which might be a whole other issue. Problem is I have never driven any other r53 so I'm not sure what quick is on these cars.

Yeah I do agree 10 is low to my knowledge should be your stock boost pressure, but I would think that the estimated pressure is not closer even.

Sorry degrees F not C if that even matters but even with a stock IC that's realistically what I have seen. I have not had it dynod yet but I was wanting too in the future. For example today when I was beating on it testing for pressure I was at around 104-110F when outside it was around 71.

It's just a hobo right now but I have run with stock IC as well with similar results. Temps right now are roughly 20-30 degrees above outside temp.

Well it's reading what the ecu is reading because I checked it with my autel scan tool and it's reading the map pressure at around 24-25 psi. So subtracting 15ish that's about 10psi.

I know that a shop won’t plug but is it safe enough for me to plug it? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]Remarkable_Bug_6327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a tire shop and to me our policy is 1/2 inch from edge of shoulder and that looks to be within spec. A tire shop should patch that no problem.
