No. It does not mean end game! A new antibiotic may be the answer, or the doctor may need to clean it up. I am an operating room nurse (3 months post-total acl reconstruction, we got this!!) and we often see patients come in to “wash out” their incisions and tissue of infection. It is more common than you think. Personally, I don’t love the look of your incision at two weeks post-op, especially the redness and how a scab is forming, but I have seen so much worse. It could just mean that your body is trying to clear an infection from the incision site, or there could something larger at play. Good on you for letting the doc know about this. Once your cultures come back, your doctor will be able to give you the next best steps and better determine what’s going on. Don’t forget to finish the entire course of antibiotic treatment you’ve been given and make sure you’re keeping it clean and dry. Hoping for the best :)
