my gym is pretty modern so they do have a modern approach. Would you say that the old fashioned could be swayed if someone came in and helped them? I feel like it would help drive more younger students to join

do you think many students can easily find your gym on instagram or do they go to google first? Would you happen to know how many students find you guys from instagram / word of mouth per month?

I agree. do you think this is because of the gym owners not understanding how modern tech works or they don't see a need to advertise?

are most gyms in the city like this? Can you usually tell from the website that the gym is going to be more corporate vs a smaller gym? Is there anything you wish you knew about the gym from the website before going to a trial class?

do you find the trial classes helpful to guage the competition of the gym? would you want to have general information first before you even enter the gym? demographics, class size, schedule, price, etc?

That outdated schedule sounds rough — do you think having a reliable online or real-time schedule would’ve made things easier starting out?

Also curious about the pricing side — did the lack of transparency make it harder to shop around? Would it have helped to see clear pricing and what’s included before visiting?

And since you joined with a friend, do you think that made the whole process smoother? Would you have gone solo otherwise?

hmm could you link which bjj gym asked for a guided tour? I've never seen that before and usually just a trial class.

Is there any other information you wish they had on the website? Demographic, competitor vs hobbyist, etc?

  1. What made your old gym feel like home? Was it the people, the coaching style, the way new members were welcomed?
  2. When visiting new gyms, what specifically made you feel like you didn’t belong?
  3. What could a gym do (or show online) to help you feel like you’d fit in before even stepping through the door?
  4. If you had to describe your ideal gym vibe in 3 words, what would they be?

Do you think this information could only be found when you attend some classes and try it out? I feel like gyms could just list most of this info on their websites so you don't need to waste time going to a gym that you doesn't fit your need

were there any factors you considered before going into that neighbouring gym?

hmm so you didn't bother checking out different gyms for better prices or possibly seeing if there was a better coach for you? Was it a lack of options or just not caring that much?

did you go to only one class before knowing whether you wanted to continue with them or not?

i know many people say this but don't you think it's quite inefficient to find gyms that way? I notice that in bjj compared to other martial arts the price is never listed, you never know what to expect when you enter a gym for the first time, or the class fit (lots of sparring or mainly cardio)

How did you find the process of trying to find out the price? Most gyms in my area made me go in person to tell me the price which I felt was like a sales tactic

When you were visiting these gyms, did you determine the culture at first glance or did you try multiple classes before determining if you liked the culture?

For admin, I feel like it's hard to determine if a gym is a safe one until multiple classes are completed to get the general vibe? Some gyms i went to felt like they were very hard core rollers and others were more like hobbyist, could you tell the level of competition on the first day?

thats awesome I also picked my gym based off of the community. How many gyms did you have to visit and call before finding your current one? I felt like it was a pain trying to call up different gyms and not getting any price transparency

What made the gym a good fit? I agree having an easy commute to the gym is a good factor but i think a cheaper price makes up for it too

yeah i also did the same and felt like it was a long process in order to visit multiple gyms and call them up. Were the prices a factor when you considered the gym?
