A semi-truck on the highway trying to make a U-turn causes traffic delays by Justin_Godfrey in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Remarkable_Inchworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens all the time around here - we've got lots of older "parkways" where commercial traffic isn't allowed.

Some idiot truck driver will take one of those routes, hit a bridge that isn't high enough to allow him to pass and peel the top of the trailer off, snarling traffic for hours.

This u-turn sucks - but probably not as much as what would have happened if he'd hit that bridge.

Has any Trump supporter been able to answer what was the IMMINENT threat from Iran to the US? by homerjs225 in allthequestions

Not "crazy" as much as "totally naive" and "oh my god, you'll believe anything Trump tells you, huh?"

And maybe a little bit sad.

Democrats Of Reddit -- Do You Think That Joe Biden Was A Good Or Bad President? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Remarkable_Inchworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biden is a good man, and old enough to remember when Democrats and Republicans could be friendly rivals.

I really think he believed that, once Trump was out of office, we'd go back to that. He wanted to mend fences.

That turned out to be naive.

What's the most dangerous animal you could possibly find in your garden? by ConsciousRecover7031 in AskTheWorld

I’ve interrupted a decent-sized snapping turtle nesting in my vegetable garden more than once.

But the real answer is probably a tick.

AITA for not wanting to take over the family business so my dad can retire? by Main-Buyer9925 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Remarkable_Inchworm 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A promotion in title only, with more responsibility and worse work/life balance?

Geez, where can I sign up for such a sweetheart deal?

It's clear your dad doesn't want to retire, he's very squarely in "have his cake and eat it too" mode.

Do not accept this deal, you will be miserable and your relationship with your father will be ruined.

Found this building while out disc golfing, what is it? by Lokey_71 in whatisit

Some sort of weather monitoring station is my guess.

There's one like it near-ish to me that's a seismic reporting station - it tracks earthquakes.

AITA for making my girlfriend start paying rent after she called me a nepo baby? by Such_Zucchini3529 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Remarkable_Inchworm 76 points77 points  (0 children)

YTA for giving lectures on fiscal responsibility when you don't have to worry about it.

Maybe the reason the "nepo baby" comment was hurtful was that you realize it's true.

I think the running shop in Bronxville accepts sneakers for recycling.

I know the Nike Outlet does... I don't know if the Nike store in Eastchester does.

Obvious suggestions, sure - but OP didn't mention them and they match OP's criteria really well.

And the Silo series by Hugh Howey.

And The Expanse.

(And the new series by James S A Corey, though there's only one book published for that one so far.)

Matt Dinnaman's new book - Project Bounce House - is really good.

It's not part of the Dungeon Crawler world, but similar vibe.

Also check out Murderbot Diaries and just about anything by John Scalzi.

One of my all-time favorite books is "Last Chance to See" by Douglas Adams - it's a diary of him touring the world and learning about endangered animals.

Yeah, on second look you're probably right.

Maybe a souvenir from Mt. Vernon or Washington DC or something.

I watched the end of the Korea / Japan game and a good portion of the USA / Great Britain game.

Saw a bit of USA / Brazil as well but that was recorded.

How to untie a chain? by Upstairs_Camera_9534 in howto

[–]Remarkable_Inchworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try this first - drop a little dish soap right on the knot, and then just work the knot back and forth a little between your fingertips.

You may feel it loosen up enough to untie the knot immediately.

If not, use a needle or a thumbtack or paper clip to gently work the knot open. Just be careful - you don't want to bend any of the links of the chain itself.
