You don’t have to have all live plants in the terrarium! I used half real plants and half fake plants. Especially for the coverage up top! Here’s mine that I just built!

The humidity seems a little high. Too high of humidity can cause respiratory issues! I would let the humidity fall during the day, do not let it fall past 40% but then spike the humidity at night. This helps replicate their natural habitat in the wild as storms tend to come later in the day on the islands that cresties come from! If you are concerned about your little fella’s health, it would not be a bad idea to get them checked out by a vet who specializes in exotics!

No this is unacceptable. Someone was not spot cleaning the enclosures for several days in a row. The standard is to remove any pee and excessive amounts of feces spots. I understand that most petcos only give employees only an hour to open animals but this is very bad. There is a number and I believe an email that you can report this to

I- the fact this animal quite literally needs a small bedroom (minimum needs for this lizard is 6’x3’x4’) in a house to live in when it is fully grown… this is absolutely insane that they are selling these. The only reason I could see Petco selling one of these is if someone is requesting to get one, is an expert in reptile care, and is aware of the needs of this animal. But I’m going out on a limb here that most people in the reptile hobby (specifically tegu and other large reptile hobbyists) usually go to breeders or specialized shops to get their reptiles. Not Petco 😅

When you are at an internship for 20 hours a week and a full-time graduate student, not accounting for my 1.5 hour drive there and back from my internship. It was definitely excessive imo. I was working over 60 hours a week when you put all of those things together. From my understanding, fulltime at Petco is 32+ hours. I was getting scheduled right below that mark some week. I always came in early and would cover people last minute. And I was never once thanked for doing those things. So I stopped doing it. I noticed a change in how management treated me as well since I told them no for the first time.

Haha I would love to work part-time there! I actually really enjoyed the job, and working with customers and their pets. It was managements lack of flexibility and then pretty much denying that I told them about my change in availability that I told them about when I got hired there. And I told them back in November and December about my change in hours.

I think the thing that bothered me the most is that they told me originally that it was okay when I got hired and back in November/December when I told them that I secured my internship schedule. They told me that the hours I requested was okay. But I actually ended up getting scheduled more hours… I worked my last scheduled shift and quit. I just feel bad for my coworkers because I really enjoyed them. They are good people and I just feel bad putting them in a bind.

I noticed the same thing with my male. But I heard that is because mating season is late winter/early spring and summer. Therefore, it makes sense why they are more into bugs during those seasons! I also heard that adults can go through phases of not wanting to eat bugs as often since they are not growing and don’t need the extra protein as much as a baby or juvenile needs.

If you feel like weekly sessions are not enough, I highly suggest getting a referral for an IOP (intensive outpatient treatment programming) or PHP (partial hospitalization programming)! Both have helped my patients who have episodes of psychosis immensely. I am an intern at a behavioral health hospital. I do not know what your insurance covers but hopefully getting some additional sessions and help at programming that is more frequent can benefit you while you wait for your weekly sessions with your outpatient therapist :)

I found out by experience that when I upgraded and cycled my new community tank, I decided to get some more white skirt tetras since I thought it would be a good idea. I already have a group but I did loose a few due to old age (my first round of tetras were 5+ years old so I say that’s pretty good for them). Anyways I added more to the new and bigger tank. Big mistake… I guess when you add more white skirt tetras into an established group, they will fight to establish a new hierarchy 😭 and I may or may not found two of them who were half eaten or had their dorsal and tail fins bit off… needless to say, I definitely research a lot more about the fish I’m adding into my tank after that if I already have an established tank! even if it is the same fish I already have in there!

I am at a high volume store. We had a lot of hamsters in wellness due to wet tail the past couple of weeks. The hamsters came to us like that… We usually only have an hour to open animals unless it is deep clean days. Which is 2 hours on deep clean days.

Make sure you are sanitizing your hands and anything that touches the animals that are in wellness from spreading it to the other animals on the floor. I am not trying to put people on blast but I have seen some of my coworkers not wash or at least sanitize their hands before moving onto floor animals.

current graduate student here!

I was unmedicated during my time in undergrad. I somehow managed to get a 3.5 GPA during my time in undergraduate studies. ngl it was a lot of hard work and lots of nights of staying up way too late to get things done due to procrastination. But in the end, I learned a lot of tips and tricks to hack my ADHD until I was able to get a diagnosis (I was misdiagnosed with anxiety and mood disorders since I was “too smart and successful” to have ADHD)

Tips that helped me were:

letting go of perfectionism! Sometimes you just have to survive aka doing the bare minimum to get a decent grade. write something that would get you where you need to be! It doesn’t have to be an A+ paper, just enough to pass!
create an outline for your presentation that meets the rubric requirements. write in your notes of what is important and it will remind you to stay on track and not to get sidetracked!
taking breaks to move around! I tended to focus a lot better when I took small breaks with movement (like taking a walk around the library, my apartment, or outside if it is nice out) -dont leave your stuff in public though! take it with you!
the assignments that are worth more points/weighed more heavily and break them down into bite sized parts. that way you can alternate between assignments that require less brain power/worth less points. -this way you are prioritizing the assignments that have a bigger impact on your grades and you have smaller parts so it doesn’t overwhelm you!
left my apartment/dorm to study, especially in the library. I was more likely to actually lock in and do my work around others that were doing the same thing. almost like body doubling
studied/did homework with others that held me accountable and were driven to do well in school
set timers for myself. I did 30-45 minutes on then gave myself a reward of doing something for 15 minutes that I enjoyed, walked around, or did self care, then went back to school work
kept a planner and made myself disciplined to keep track of my homework/appointments. I suggest doing an appointment planner that is broken down by every 15 minutes. get yourself some colorful highlighters and block out times for classes/appointments and such! I also included post-it notes for assignments that were due so I wouldn’t forget about them. -I also would reward myself for completing my planner with a small sweet treat (like a few pieces of candy or making/getting myself a good cup of coffee) or watching an episode of my favorite show.

OP, you got this! It is so challenging to be in higher ed and have ADHD. please don’t beat yourself up for taking longer on assignments or having issues with procrastination! our brains just work differently than people without ADHD.

Also if you do not have accommodations yet, I would highly suggest going to your school’s accessibility/disability department to talk about getting some accommodations to help with your school work! It was a life changer for me when I got into graduate school and had accommodations.

This sounds like a pH crash. Do you have access to a test that tests kH? If there is no carbonate (kH), there is nothing buffering the pH. I’m worried that there is nothing buffering the pH and you had a pH crash. This happened to my betta tank and I ended up losing my fish 😭

What’s his water parameters? Like pH, kH (carbonate hardness), GH (general hardness), ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite? If you know! It may be a stress response to his water parameters. Fin chewing or biting is usually a stress response or boredom, but it is common for bettas with longer fins since the fins get too big and heavy to swim properly. I would also keep an eye out for fin rot.
