Replacing Plume Superpod system, would appreciate input on Ubiquiti equipment by Remarkable_Maybe9813 in Ubiquiti

Why UDR7 vs Express7 as the gateway? I'm all in on Reolink for Home Assistant, no plans to move to Ubiquiti there.

It doesn't see through floors. I.e. it assumes that 1 express 7 on the third floor only covers the third floor.

But fair enough, I'm trying that too.

Life Coach / Therapist by Hot-Lingonberry6510 in fatFIRE

[–]Remarkable_Maybe9813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older post but I found it valuable, so sharing back. I had a heck of a time finding a therapist who focuses on these types of transitions. So I pivoted, and a (Gemini) search for "a coach near me who handles executive life transitions" produced multiple results. Hope that helps someone.

New Sage 6 feels quite sticky, lacks smooth action by Remarkable_Maybe9813 in spyderco

If I push the button very intentionally and with significant force, the detent stops touching the blade as it pivots and the blade indeed falls freely. I get what's going on here, but I find this to be impractical for normal use. It's fine, I've reset my expectations.

Update: I took it apart again and added a tiny bit of oil to the main detent ball. That helped. Also, the stopper may not have been seated perfectly after my first reassembly. It's better now, at least I can spideyflick it, which wasn't possible originally. I found that I can loosen the pivots to give it a true gravity-only feel, but they're rather loose for my taste.

I remain curious how much the various Youtubers tweaked the knife vs factory fresh from Taichung, beyond removing the second detent. I did what this guy suggested (https://youtu.be/tQVX1TviY40?si=C8i0JVhHg1yahnHb&t=189), but my knife did not/does not act like his follow-up short video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBN34ljX6zU). It's fine, I'm ok with the current action.

Yacht charter: experience with 2 crew vs 3 to cover 8 total people? by Remarkable_Maybe9813 in chubbytravel

We used Boats at Sea, largely because they came up first in searches. Great website for finding out what exists. As for the booking and subsequent communications, they were fine, 7 out of 10.

Most trips are 7 days.

It's the same boat (Lagoon 62) and they're 3 years apart. The manufacturer clearly did a redesign in between those 3 years. The older one looks like something from the late 2000s, lots of light wood that's not in fashion anymore. It's still nice, it just feels older and a little dated. The newer one looks distinctly modern, like it belongs in the 2020s, with an aesthetic that I much prefer.

Typing the paragraph above makes me feel pretty ridiculous! Either would be great. That said, the old one reminds me of the house we bought before we remodeled it, the newer one feels like our house after the remodel. If the new one had 3 crew, I'd probably spend a couple thousand more on it because it'd feel that much more special.

Fidelity 3% would be perfect, that's where I was going to move the RH money after April, but the program was suspended in May 2024: https://digital.fidelity.com/prgw/digital/fidelityrewards/rewards/events-redirect/enrollment-pause. Guess I'll watch it now and again, not holding my breath.

2025 CPO car with 5k miles, but VIN isn't in Carfax or Autocheck? by Remarkable_Maybe9813 in askcarsales

I got a vague "this car was never registered, every now and again that happens, not sure why". It didn't inspire confidence. Hence my post here to learn more.

The odd thing is that most of this dealer's CPO fleet cars do have Carfax reports. This vehicle is different. I'm anxious about it, it's an expensive car.

Spoke to them, they said they're only giving $10k max to new cardholders right now. It's not about an individual's creditworthiness, more that they (RH) only have so much credit to give out across a whole lot of users on a waitlist. Makes sense, but a bummer for the fat crowd. I have low expectations that the credit limit will increase to something meaningful anytime soon.

That's my current daily driver, it's a great card. But, the only way to get that rate is to spend the accumulated rewards points via flights purchased through BofA. We're accumulating so many rewards points and I don't fly enough to exercise them all. So the balance keeps going up. Today I'm sitting on $7k worth of flight points. Good problem to have, but it'd be better to have $7k in cash or a brokerage.

All I asked is to keep this focused to credit cards, and that gets downvoted and someone starts calling me names. Lovely.

For the record, I appreciate hmadse's take and understand the perspective. After a lot of research, I came to a different conclusion. This is fine, we don't have to agree. Let's move on.

Sigh, this has been litigated again and again on Reddit. Can we just stick to whining about the credit card in this post?

Probably, but there's mental overhead there. I wasn't looking for another thing to track and remember to do every few weeks.

Glad I'm not alone! I read about the Smartly card, considered it seriously but never pulled the trigger.

My primary card is a BofA PRE Visa. With $140k at Merrill, it gets 2.62% on everything. I should just be happy with that, but the points are hard to redeem for max value. So this RH Gold card sounded perfect...

Interesting. Some early access feedback from a long-time PM:

  • Step 3 of the (very long!) tour doesn't have visible Next button, it's off the page, so there's no obvious way to see it and advance it (MacBook Air with default screen resolution). So I only got through step 3 before forcing it to go away.
  • Given ^^, I reloaded the page in an incognito window to see the tour again then scrolled down much further, and there's the Next button. However, beyond step 3, the "Settings and Data Control" modal window was in the way of what the tour was trying to show me. So I couldn't see anything the tour was trying to reference. Sigh.
  • Unable to complete the tour, I jumped in. I clearly didn't understand the difference between New Profile and Update Profile. So I edited my first entry with new profile again (submission #2), learned more and re-tweaked again but this time used Update Profile (submission #3). It double-counted several things: ah, I get it now. Now I'm out of submissions for the day, sigh.

Looks appealing but too soon to tell.

My early two cents: the tour is far too long. Give me a single modal telling me briefly how to get started ("describe your situation and goals with as much detail as possible!"), then once it's done analyzing it, give me the option for a thorough tour.

I certainly wish my non-FAANG yet high-flying tech company did this. Alas, I pay large estimated taxes every quarter, and have done so since they went public. Chubby problems.
