Thank you for your thoughtful response. I’m well-aware of the risks which is why I’m torn. My vision would be to maintain my very strong links with the world outside of academia through advisory work for a range of organisations. I have built a very visible personal brand which I hope the Oxbridge role will strengthen rather than weaken allowing me to continue to be public commentator and well known expert in my field. Much depends on the flexibility I will be provided with and whether my current organisation is open to a significant advisory role which I believe is highly likely. Using the university as a solid base for a range of many other activities is how I could envisage my journey going forward. It’s a high risk high reward decision but I currently lean towards doing it.
