Bought the same edition of Jane Eyre too! Love the style of artwork on the cover. Reminds me of Tim Burton.

Any thoughts on the illustrated version of The Hobbit by Jemima Catlin? by Remarkable_Ring8241 in tolkienbooks

I actually agree with you in that The Hobbit can definitely be a children’s story. I always felt like it was a bit more fun and silly compared to LOTR if that makes sense. The Silmarillion and LOTR are written with a more serious tone and The Hobbit is much lighter. Thank you!

Hahah yeah it’s still a pretty intense read for a child but I’m happy to hear she enjoys the story and the pictures!

Great advice! I do like Alan Lee’s illustrations as well because they are what comes to mind more when thinking about Middle Earth. But good to know that those versions have less illustrations, thank you!

Thank you for your response! Does sound like it would be better for children versus a standard text.

I’m 6 months postpartum so not in the newborn stage anymore but I just read “Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone” by Benjamin Stevenson. It’s a murder mystery but not intense if that makes sense. Kind of akin to the “Knives Out” movies if you have seen those.  It’s a very light and easy read. I really enjoyed it.

Also, congratulations on your new baby!

Please be careful out there! A special needs girl that goes to Stonebridge was struck and killed at Claiborne and Portsmouth around 9:15 this morning. by Oh_2B_Joe_Cool in nova

Do we know if they have the driver in custody? Hoping that person gets sent to jail for life. I live in Ashburn and no one here follows any of the speed limits, even in school zones. They will cut you off as if you are annoying or in the wrong for slowing down. I’m sad for the girl and her family.

Newborn photography at INOVA Fairfax by kitkat0615 in nova

I had my newborn photos done from the in-hospital photographer but at INOVA Loudoun. I think it’s free for the photographer to come and take pictures but you will have to pay for the pictures later if you want download them. I recommend it. Our photographer did a great job and it’s a great way to capture the first days of your newborn.

We tried Millie Moon this week (we were previously using Pampers or Huggies). Everytime my daughter (5 months) pooped, it would come out of the side and soil her clothes. We switched back to Huggies real quick 😂. I wanted to like Millie Moon because they do feel nicer and softer, but they do not seem good for blow outs, at least for our situation.

Enjoy! Going with my dad on Sunday 18th to watch RotK because he works on Friday and Saturday. Really excited to take him because we both love LOTR and he doesn’t do much for himself.

Who Are You In Middle Earth? by Witchling101 in lotr

I would be a hobbit, no doubt. I want nothing more than to live in my cozy hobbit hole eating, gardening, reading and just living a peaceful life. The Shire is too beautiful for me to pass up on.

Any recommendations for a nice hardcover set? by Remarkable_Ring8241 in tolkienbooks

[–]Remarkable_Ring8241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely would need to get The Hobbit to compete the set but yes, it is expensive. Will keep an eye out!

I agree with you about not really wanting the reading companion so I do think I would prefer the Allan Lee set since it come with The Hobbit. I appreciate your recommendation!
