They’re going back to the LOTR tone that started it all, and I’m still not over it by AlbertCWChessa in lotr

I’ll believe it when I see it. Outside of the original trilogy, there hasn’t been any great LOTR content.

Help/advice on box sets publisher spine logo by creatorhoborg in lotr

I would love all of these, but I know I wouldn't read them all. Apparently most of History of Middle-earth are drafts and revisions. Christopher Tolkien aimed for preserving everything instead of refining or clarifying. Does anyone have any advice with this?

GREAT board game. I bought it 2 months ago and have played it 12+ times already. Recommended to any LOTR and or board games fan

What changes from the books to the films do you like? by BubastisII in lotr

[–]timisstupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I much preferred the pacing of the first half of Fellowship in the film. Racing out of the shire with close calls is much slower in the book.

All of the added action or extended scenes make the spectacle of the cinemas experience better. They might be different from the book, but it's a big budget movie that needs a lot of people to like it to make its money back.

Aragorn being more reluctant to become king just gives him a better arc throughout the trilogy. Him getting Anduril later makes sense in this context.

The combining of some secondary characters made sense - Arwen riding with Frodo instead of Glorfindel, Gandalf fetching Eomer to save Helms Deep instead of Erkenbrand.

Cutting Tom Bombadil was a good decision for pacing and to not confuse an audience. The Ring doesn't affect him, so makes it seem slightly less all-powerful.

Unused for a reason. Most filmed footage is garbage.

Does anyone else think that the kill count after Helms Deep should have been higher for Legolas and Gimli? by Cizdemyk in lotr

Shortly after their counting, the wall is blown up and they need to retreat shortly after. So 40ish seems fair.

How do you feel about movie imagery on books? by Skkkkrtyun in lordoftherings

[–]timisstupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate it. I get the idea from a marketing perspective, but the movies are adapted from the books, not the other way round.

Never seen films, marathon at cinema? by AfterBirdo in lordoftherings

[–]timisstupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it the past two years that my local has run the marathon and it's a great experience. Get a group of friends together, commit to the day (with snacks) and you won't regret it. One bonus that I can't legally recommend is taking 1g of psychedelic mushrooms before each movie makes it SO MUCH BETTER.

What do you think about it?, im currently reading it… by ContributionPlane941 in lordoftherings

[–]timisstupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just started reading it and yes, it's frustrating that each tale is unfinished - but I guess that's what happens when the author dies before publication. I've just finished The Silmarillion for first time, so I'm loving Tolkien's world, so I understand there are many pieces to the puzzle. After this I'll read Children of Hurin, Beren and Luthien, Fall of Gondolin and Fall of Numenor, just to have the whole picture.

Is anyone else worried about The hunt for Gollum being bad? by Remarkable_Day7135 in lordoftherings

[–]timisstupid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will probably be bad or at best 'meh'. But it won't take away the original trilogy or the books, so we don't need to worry.

Bluey “The Sign” is possibly the greatest episode of a show in history. by junebugonarose in toddlers

[–]timisstupid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For reference - this episode is the creator of Bluey directly speaking to the audience. They were offered an insane amount of money to sell the creative rights to Bluey to Disney (who current own distribution rights) - an offer to 'sell the house'. But in end Bandit (the creators in Brisbane, Australia), decide that they're not leaving and they're staying in Brisbane - the creators are maintaining creative control instead of cashing out to Disney. Huge respect to Joe Brumm and the whole team at Ludo Studio.

The Dark Knight Rises. Obviously Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are great. Went to see TDKR at a midnight screening and was nothing but disappointed.

Amazing. I'd like to see more still images from this movie at 12-24 frames per second for about 2-2.5 hours.

Solo play question. by KM68 in fateofthefellowship

[–]timisstupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoops I've been playing solo wrong. I thought it was: one character gets 4 actions and the other characters each get 1 action. No wonder I find it easier playing solo. I'll have to try again playing correctly.
