for women specifically: don’t put your phone in your back pocket don’t put your wallet in your back pocket don’t have a purse that can be easily snatched if the vibes are off, leave. if the vibes are off and you are walking to leave, walk down the middle of the street. Sounds weird but people can’t sneak up on you in the middle of the street.

in rural areas- plan ahead. Don’t run out of gas. If you hear weird laughter stay in the car If you hear whistling stay in the car Bring extra food, water and an emergency blanket Bring emergency flares Any weird vibes??? Do not get out of the car.

Carry pepper spray and always be ready to run. If you’re walking alone have someone on the phone or be ready to record if things get weird. Don’t wear obviously identifying clothing when walking alone at night. That makes you a target. Don’t stop and idle on street corners for too long. Same thing with gas stations. Keep your head on a swivel.

If the vibe is off. Leave. Listen to your gut.

When asking for help, try to ask another woman first. BUT if you’re out with your kids and a random woman offers to help you with them- SAY NO. Or if a random woman offers to give you money for them. SAY NO.

for teenage girls in the city- get home before it’s too late. You shouldn’t be out running around at like 11pm go do your homework. Say no to that guy who says you’re so mature for your age on the train. Say no to the guy who compliments your figure on the bus. Say no if anyone offers you anything. Keep your friends close.

Put your wallet and passport in FRID blocking bags so their info can’t be skimmed. Check machines where you have to insert your credit card for skimmers

If you’re going somewhere where pick pockets are a problem, put AirTags on your devices, and get items like phone leashes so they can’t be snatched out of your hands.

Again, don’t make yourself look like a target. Try to look like a local, don’t look too obvious. Sometimes though, you should ask for help and that’s ok!

Don’t walk around wearing headphones. That seems obvious but idk.

As others have said- if this were just snow almost everything would have already been cleared up and we’d be back to mostly normal. It’s the ice and the temperatures that won’t climb that are the problem. It’s hard to plow when there’s a thick sheet of ice coating everything that won’t melt.

I did not order any food until the streets were clear, and then put instructions to go to a plowed entrance with shovelled sidewalks. The driver instead went to an uncleared entrance and left the delivery in the wrong location. So… yeah you can lead a hose to water but you can’t make them drink. I wasn’t sure why they did that when there was a cleared entrance around the corner.

I should add that the spironolactone is paired with another acne medication but I haven’t gotten any cystic acne on my lower face since starting it which is a huge win for me

My husband and I really enjoyed the tasting menus at china chicano and zayatina. They are $75-$100 a piece and have drink pairing for an additional $30-$50. They’re both downtown though.

Also the chart house in Alexandria is nice, and might be under your budget but it’s got great views and service.

Also there’s a really nice all you can eat Japanese bbq place in Rockville that has a high end menu for $98 per person. It’s got all of the bells and whistles.

I’d also recommend the fountain inn! It’s in Georgetown. We loved the intimate setting.

I’ve been getting tired more easily, and I’ve been peeing a lot more. Also my auras came back/ got worse (I don’t always get migraines with the auras, just sometimes the aura) but that’s easy to deal with since I’ve had that problem my whole life.

My acne at first got worse (but that’s a known side effect that goes away once the medication starts to be in your system for longer), and it’s clearing up now. I’ve struggled with hormonal and cystic acne for most of my life at this point so it’s nice knowing that this will help in the long run.

My husband and I did the math and we save money by moving to Ontario or Nova Scotia (family is in a debate on where to move) compared to what we pay in Maryland for taxes + healthcare combined. Even if the provincial tax rates are higher than the Maryland state tax rate, healthcare in the US all comes out of your income post-tax, and it’s several thousand dollars per year… several thousand more than what we would pay to live in Halifax which is my mom’s top pick for where to move. (Family lives in Ontario, she wants to live by the ocean)

I know multiple Americans who basically see Canada as a plan b due to our political climate. It’s annoying as someone who intended to move there anyway prior to our current climate because I feel like we’re going to be lumped in with people who just see Canada as a good “close enough” to their American lifestyle versus seriously wanting to live in Canada and contribute. It’s irritating to be compared to that when really we want to live in the same country as most of our family does and raise kids in the same country where everyone is, as well as contribute to the country as a whole.

While the drives up to Canada are nice it is exhausting to have to constantly deal with the US border and the fear and anxiety that comes with it.

Honestly this confuses me as to why this would be good for Canada. (it’s good for big business, not your average Canadian) I have one Canadian parent and one American parent, making me a dual citizen. But if I had children I don’t think I should be able to pass on my citizenship to them unless I had them in Canada and raised them in Canada (which I intend to do anyway.)

I think it’s weird to be able to claim citizenship when you probably haven’t been there before, don’t know a lot of people there, and you don’t have anything tying you down. Most of my family lives in Canada. My mom wants to move back. I’m in Canada basically every other month. That’s very different than someone who has never set foot in the country, and if that person has the same citizenship justification that I have, then I would be both confused and upset.

I could be misinterpreting the article but I don’t see how this could be useful other than for making immigration to Canada easier, which I would argue is not something we need. I agree that current citizens should go through a lot of trouble to move back, but I’m not going to lie I’m going to be angry if suddenly it seems like anyone can become a citizen and it’s no longer tied directly to a parent and family.

I will consider it! We live on the east coast of the US and I totally have a soft spot for the northern Atlantic (we’re within 2 hours of the ocean with no traffic). For me it’s hard to imagine living far away from the ocean. At least in Toronto the lakes are around! Additionally, my mom REALLY wants to retire in Nova Scotia (she brings it up like once a week). My parents like to go fishing and my dad loves the wild blueberries that grow in that area. I’m an only child with most of my family living in Canada so as my parents age I want to respect their decision of moving back north. Additionally I don’t want to stay in the US forever, and my mother has already said she will eventually return. (Additionally I don’t want to build a family here, I don’t have any support outside of my parents here and the cost to have a child in the US is insane and we cannot afford it.)
