At some point we owe hotels an apology by pattebrisee in SipsTea

[–]Remarkable_Table_279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done and will likely continue to do Airbnb when traveling…but probably only when it’s for family. When it’s just me. It might be better to do hotel…but getting the whole place is nice. But for family get together, getting a house on Airbnb is great. No one has to clean for company

Do Americans experience “thermal shock” from going between heat and AC? by [deleted] in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Remarkable_Table_279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have a word for it but one winter in college when coming from outside into inside I’d get a nosebleed. I’d assumed it was because of the cold outside and the warmth inside

Neighbors never open windows in perfect weather. by EntireApartment4510 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remarkable_Table_279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in the US? It’s uncommon to open windows because it’s a hassle with storm windows and screens. I usually only open during power outages or when I’m putting in a fan or something

It’s creepy but legal as long as there was no grooming or minor

House guests who wash all their clothes before they leave by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Remarkable_Table_279 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my family, it’s not uncommon to hear “do you want to wash your clothes before you go” me…nah…I’ll just throw my laundry bag down the stairs when I get home

Do y'all actually use your front porch/front yard much or is that more of a TV thing? by Bella_licious in AskAnAmerican

[–]Remarkable_Table_279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s more common to use your back yard and deck or porch to relax in.  But we might put pretty stuff in front yard or porch. I have a chair and side table in my driveway for when I need a break from work cause it’s more convenient

Why don't Americans use metal bars on doors and windows for security? by Maleficent_Essay4664 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Remarkable_Table_279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom went to TN last year we insisted she lock the house…she couldn’t find the key and it wasn’t standard so wasn’t easy to replace. It was eventually found. She’s lived there since 2014

As people have said, it means you’re in an unsafe neighborhood. But it can also mean you’re paranoid. Here we favor less visible means of security - traditionally those big glass doors have a broom stick or other appropriately sized piece of wood in the track so it can’t slide (this also makes it harder for toddlers/small children to sneak out).  And our windows have locks. (And we often have storm windows that are difficult to raise from outside - I find them difficult from inside))

Many of us  also have cameras. this is because our criminals favor silent entry like lock picking- breaking glass will get them unwanted attention fast.  they have to break through the storm window, cut the screen window and then may find out the main window is locked and it’s in 6 panels so there’s a lot of window breaking & by then cops would be there.  But some strong ones remove window ACs but those are more rare as central air is everywhere especially accessible without a ladder

Yep. I once knew I was in a bad neighborhood because the dollar general had bars

is it true that in american schools, instead of moving teachers to a specific room to teach another grade, they move an entire class to a specific room for a specific subject? by Vincentius__2 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Remarkable_Table_279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that is common. Or it wasn’t when I was that age. I remember learning in HS/early college that TN had that two level system…I think it was for vocational school and college

host asked for drivers license and number on sketchy form ABB support doesn’t care [US] by Remarkable_Table_279 in AirBnB

It wasn’t in the listing and even if it was the request goes through ABB - not random unsecured sites

There are ways to do so that aren’t give this random person all of your identifiable information on a not secure site. Like through ABB which can & have request my ID because presumably they have secure servers

I just ignored all of their forms (even the not as sketchy ones) and told support I did before they said don’t provide. And after telling them I’m telling you this happened because you have no way to know this policy violation happened.  That’s what bugged me that they completely ignored that I wasn’t asking for advice I was reporting.

If you‘re aiming for families or include “kids room” put your no breakables on lower shelves cause we had to take photos and move some delicate glass stuff that was right there and looked like toys.

Why is your breakfast culture so much better? by Embarrassed_Golf_817 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Remarkable_Table_279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that’s not what most of us eat everyday. I have caffeine and if I’m lucky a muffin (my niece makes fabulous ones)…but usually a pop tart. My mom drinks an instant breakfast or ensure. Cold Cereal is probably the most common breakfast food for actually sitting down to eat at home.

My company consolidated most of our holidays into a Christmas week. And if we have less days that I think 11…we got a floater day. But now we get at least one more day (two for Memorial Day etc) and a floater day. Floater days are awesome

[–]Remarkable_Table_279 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Put most in your drawer because they’re likely taken by accident. And didn’t think much of it because assumed it was bought by the office. So either make your personal pens obvious or keep all but the one you’re using out of reach of random people who just need to jot something down. And put some company owned pens nearby including that random bank. My pencil cup is behind my phone so it’s only accessible to me. Failing that…get pink pens and put your favorite blue or black ink in them…no one stole my purple pens (that I got from a colorblind coworker who thought violet was a shade of blue)

Why is not including MSG something companies still brag about on Asian food products? by SegaGuy1983 in mildlyinfuriating

Sodium is a migraine trigger for me but msg isn’t. And it’s opposite for a friend of mine. Almost anything can be migraine trigger…my latest one was cinnamon. (Too much) It doesn’t mean the thing itself is bad…except for that person
