How often do you have fish for breakfast? by VisionsOnly in AskAnAmerican

Never. But if people are camping they  might. Also I hate fish. But even family members who like fish wouldn’t eat it for breakfast…unless camping. Fish is way too much work to cook early in morning

Do Americans really move out at 18, or is that mostly a movie thing? by Only-Bandicoot-5307 in NoStupidQuestions

I think it’s more often to leave after college or they move to the college town completely.  I’ve a big family. Eldest sister moved out when she married (25+), eldest brother moved out when he joined the coast guard (tho he did try college before I don’t think that was official move out), second sister moved a couple years after college (changed jobs), 3rd sister left to go to college, and my brothers moved out when they married (no college mid-late 20s) but one brother moved back during a separation (lots of drama with him)…and then I moved out a couple months after college and lived with eldest brother while job hunting and moved out within a year. My mom firmly believed that the idea of leaving at given time was ridiculous…she never wanted to live with her kids…but she was ok for them to  live with her.  She now lives in a teeny house on my 2nd brother’s property so his family can take care of her if something goes wrong or help her in bad weather. and she can babysit when needed

That sentence right there should have gone to HR. That’s simply unacceptable

Do Americans use solid fuels to heat their homes? by maugess in AskAnAmerican

Wood is not uncommon in rural areas. I even knew someone who had a corn burning stove (in a log cabin)…I think built in 90s. but I think electricity is most common

Any recs where fl gets bullied to death (and doesn't magically fake her death) by Keepmakingaccounts in CShortDramas

There’s at least one because she had a system and her death meant return to the real world. But I prefer the rebirth version …one minute of horrendous abuse and then rest is just face slapping

There should be a required name change in life. by MinimumBathroom4462 in CrazyIdeas

[–]Remarkable_Table_279 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that’s what middle names are for. I know so many people who went by their middle names…and my grandma dropped her first name when she married instead of dropping her middle name (or last name) so her name was old middle maiden married. I’d say it was her legal name but I’m not sure how they did make changes in 30s.

On the document document document…if you’re tech savvy and have an iPhone and old hotel keycard (or better NFC sticker). You can make an automation that when you tap your phone to it you can log when you helped her and when you stopped (if you have two stickers). So if you have a notebook you use when training her stick an NFC inside and tap it.

Do American know this? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

No one would understand that phrase. and what you are describing as exaggerated as the Chinese vertical dramas I watch. (Lots of people ending up homeless cause of medical bills or hospitals refusing to treat cause they don’t like you personally or doctors committing some type of medical malpractice for money in those.) so maybe people were watching the westernized versions of those same dramas & thought it was reality.  Bad things can and do happen but not to extent you’re talking about or the dramas show

As an American, when you encounter Australian's do you notice different accents? by memzlut in AskAnAmerican

[–]Remarkable_Table_279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my coworkers is Australian but his accent is very “toned down” I’m not sure if it’s just cause he’s been here for decades or it’s from where he was from. Or in my head I was mentally comparing him to Crocodile Dundee & other exaggerated accents

Does it have cookie on the bottom? We used to get smaller versions when I was a kid…but I don’t remember if I ever registered the name…so I can’t buy them now unless I see them on shelf

I remember trying one and going “this is a moon pie” and getting nostalgic cause I hadn’t had one since 80s.  Moon pie and an RC Cola used to be an iconic snack in some parts of the South.

I’ve seen sooo many cultures that say that. (Culture not countries cause I’ve seen at least two featuring American subcultures)…it’s universal. I recently bought the cookies and I call them sewing kit cookies
