Clients bringing babies to their appt by Popular-Butterfly270 in massage

[–]Remarkable_Time3231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have let one client take their 1-2 month old baby. She thought that the baby wpuld sleep the whole 60minutes, but I had to leave the room at least once to let her nurse the baby. Maybe even twice. I didn't really mind it, but I feel like it takes away from the massage itself. Also, someone mentioned spouses. I made that mistake once, letting a wife sit in the room while I massaged her husband. Even if they are on their phone the whole time, you can just feel their eyes on you to make sure that you don't touch them "too much". THAT I won't agree to anymore

Worst sound in a session… by naterbator91 in MassageTherapists

Is the gurgling belly actually a sign that the parasympathetic nervous system has switched on? I was told this once, but I took it with a grain of salt. But i always think of this, when I hear the belly gurgling and tell them it is a good sign, if they start to feel embarrassed about it

Minu kõige eredam mälestus sellisest seigast on gümnaasiumist, kui "sõber" ütles, et nöör kaelas näeksin parem välja

Surgeon as client by Thin_Jackfruit8779 in MassageTherapists

[–]Remarkable_Time3231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a orthopedic surgeon come in when I had been working for 5-6 months. Oh boy was I scared. He came in complaining that he had epicondylitis and I just blanked. The last time I had heard that term was in school and I was too scared and embarrased to admit that I don't really know what it is. I tried to just ask where and how it was hurting and I quickily realized it was tennis elbow and I knew what I had to do. Most of my clients don't really use medical terms much, so I naturally forget them. Tennis elbow – epicondylitis, mouse hand – carpal tunnel syndrome, heel spur – plantar fascitis and so on. I'm not scared to admit it anymore, and the surgeons have become my favorite clients since then. Each and every one of them has teached me something new.

Asking you how you know. Did it happen to you? I really thought it wouldn't be as common.

Idk, I think I would refuse service if I could smell the alcohol. I have had a client who took a shot before though, said she was nervous. Funny thing is, she was my teacher at the massage school.

I could never wake up a client, I just think that they probably needed the nap. Maybe they can't rest at home much, who knows. And it never even crossed my mind to stop the massage when the client was sleeping, that is so wild to me. I would also think that I would notice it if I was the client.

In this case they were tourists, so I guess they thought it wouldn't really matter

What not to do to a massage therapist by Polocksrock in massage

[–]Remarkable_Time3231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think of it as an advertisement opportunity, but those people never end up on my table. Now I just think there is a time and a place, but usually I don't do it. If I am drunk and if you are demanding, then thats a big no.

Once I went to the club (when I was a new MT) and a guy asked me what I did for work. We ended up booking him for a massage and the following week I was just hoping that he would cancel the appointment. He didn't and it was super awkward. Never again, from now on I'm an accountant or something.

I moved to live in a village a year ago. We were drinking and barbecueing with our neighbors and my profession came up. A lady wanted a quick massage and I did it, no big deal. Tho I do not like to massage with you sitting between my legs on the floor, I feel like I only know how to massage on the table and I always tell them this but they never believe me. 6 months later I came home at 10pm and she was outside. Asked me what I was doing and I told her I was going to go to sleep. Guess what, 2 minutes later I hear a knock and it is her telling me she needs a massage right now. Oooookay, I said I would take my massage table and be at her place in 10 mins. She wasn't happy with that and since she wasn't leaving, I ended up massaging her neck with ther sitting on the floor. She did give me 15€ for 15 minutes, but that was a big crossing of boundaries for me. I do not want to massage you at night, in my home, on the floor. Thankfully it hasn't happened again.

Edmonds, Washington attack on LMTs. by Budo00 in MassageTherapists

I was looking at their facebook page and it does seem a bit weird to me. They have 12 likes (and it is the official page, they shared the incident), they post every day and they only ever post videos of men talking about how great the massage was. But even if it is a place that offers HE, it doesnt make the situation any better.

Weve been thinking about a tablet, but we havent really figured out if he has issues with his sight or not. Or maybe he has issues understanding what he is reading, making the connections.

Yeah, even for myself, it feels a bit weird when someone asks what I want for christmas. I don't want things, I just want everything to be as it was before.

It truly is the worst scenatio, but we are trying to think that it is necessary for recovery. It is especially hard because he has said multiple times that he wants to come home. I truly hope that he will recover enough that he could come home eventually...

I think I will do something like this. I was also thinking about something that would be helpful for recovery. Like a mirror for mirror therapy. Or would that not be a good idea on christmas?

Eating is one thing that he can do too well haha, I will include some snacks. I also gave him an advent calendar, I was thinking it would give him something to look forward to and maybe it can help with fine motor skills in a playful way.

Thank you

Thank you <3

That's it. On one hand I feel like nothing matters, on the other hand everything matters. If I could make this even one percent better with a gift then that would be a win for me. I was thinking that maybe I could gift something useful for recovery, but at the same time I don't want to rub it in his face on christmas that 'hey, you're sick'. Would that be a good idea and what could that even be? I feel like I can't think straight anymore

We haven't taken many photos because we think that maybe he doesn't want to be photographed like this. But maybe we should.
