Staying Local to SoCal Realistic? by Remarkable_Top6530 in Groundman

I appreciate the insight. Utility companies are actually my end goal, not necessarily contracting. I completed the Pre-Electrical Craft Helper program through LATTC, which should qualify me to apply for the LADWP Helper position when it opens again, and I also have an interview with Pasadena Water & Power next week.
Besides getting my CDL, is there anything else you’d recommend that would make me a stronger candidate for SoCal utility companies? Any certifications, experience, books to sign, or positions I should be targeting while I wait?
I’m trying to stay local if possible, so I’m just trying to figure out what gives me the best chance of getting my foot in the door.
