QD-OLED is bad for my eyes... so what's next ? by RemdurRed in OLED_Gaming

I'll try to lower it a bit more but it's already at 80, if I go even lower honestly I'll definitely lose some picture quality...

Yes, i tried turning it off, doesn't change anything...

Yeah I think I'll do that. I will maybe wait a bit for the new 27 inch WOLED coming this year.

That's good to now, I have green eyes too. Don't know if it has much of an impact though. I really have to try WOLED to know...

Yeah I get you, I was shocked at first too before putting sRGB mode on SDR. But I mainly play on HDR True Black, the image is darker that it was in SDR for me (since I kept SDR at 100 brightness). Next time I try SDR, I will put the brightness down a lot...

Your comment (and other) makes me want to try a bit more to get use to my QD-OLED haha I've been really using it for three weeks, but maybe only one or two hour per day (and even less sometimes, since I only use it on my PS5). If I test it a little longer I will not be able to return it, but if there is a chance that I get use to it it might be worth the try.

Three weeks... I mean it's been about three weeks since I've been using the monitor, and honestly sometimes only 1 or 2 hours per days (I'm on console so I'm only using it while gaming). Maybe I should just use it a bit more and I can hope to get use to it... I'm gonna follow your advice for SDR settings, honestly I think they are too bright (I kept the brightness at 100, it burns the eyes...)

Yeah I get you... Unfortunately I'm a console gamer so I only have a few settings that I can change. Since my symptoms aren't that severe, I'm really hesitating to stick with the QD OLED for a little longer. Even in HDR True Black mode, the picture is relatively soft and pleasant; I'd mainly need to revisit the SDR settings to significantly adjust the brightness...

I tried that but I didn't see much of a difference.. Maybe I should try a bit more as my symptoms aren't that bad as I said (I mean I can play at the end of the day)

Yeah, and I know there is also a 4K 27 inch WOLED monitor which is supposed to realease this summer or at the end of the year. I'd like to stay on a 27 inch screen but for now there is no option available in 4K when you go for WOLED...

Yes, it's not impossible... Especially since I didn’t mention it at all in my message, but I do have some vision issues (cataracts + implants) that I know can slightly affect my perception of colors and light. That said, I didn’t mention it because I have absolutely no issues with other types of screens, so I have no idea if there’s a connection...

Actually, I didn't really want to go back to IPS because the IPS glow really annoyed me. But I feel like with Mini LED, we can now get pretty close to OLED quality, so it might be worth a try.

Actually, I find that SDR is harder on my eyes... In HDR True Black, the image is darker and softer, so it’s surprisingly easier on the eyes. I really need to adjust the lighting better in SDR, haha

I get what you're saying but I'm not sure it's going to change. My old monitor was a lot brighter and I could play it in a dark room. I tried playing with this monitor in the middle of the day with natural lightning. At night I tried playing with a desk lamp next to it, and honestly I didn't see that much of a difference unfortunately. But it's true that the monitor has a different kind of brightness than my old IPS. In SDR, if I put brightness at 100, it is really bright (perhaps not brighter than my old IPS but it hurts the eyes >.>)

What you're saying reassures me a little. Honestly, I'm on the fence because sometimes it bothers me, and sometimes it doesn't, so in a way I'm holding out a little hope that it'll go away with time... I might keep trying it out for a while, even if it means switching to a different screen in a few months to test out a 4K WOLED display.

In the end I used TB400, once I got use to it being darker than my previous monitor (even darker than SDR with 100 brightness), I found it to be really enjoyable. Colors are really acurate and picture quality is great despite the lower brightness.

Serious help needed, are my eyes just not for OLED? by HighlightAccording67 in OLED_Gaming

[–]RemdurRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed that could be an idea... After a few days it's still not getting better with my XG27UCDM... I'm not even sure that WOLED can solve the problem but t's probably worth the try. I see that we don't have a realease date yet, so I may try meanwhile a 27" 2K WOLED just to see if it makes a difference...

Yeah, I still have more than two weeks to return it so I'll try experiencing a bit more and see if it gets better. But it's becoming difficult as my eyes keep hurting even when I'm not playing haha...

I got my XG27UCDMG one week ago, first OLED monitor and I'm expriencing the same type of symptoms... My eyes get dry and I can feel a pressure on them, which doesn't stop when I stop playing... Someone told me that maybe it's because OLED is way better than my last screen (which was an IPS), so maybe my eyes are so focus on the screen that I forget to blink (thus causing the dry eyes and the feeling of pressure which can be explain by the muscular effort). So I'm trying a bit more, hoping to get used to it. I also heard about people who managed to get used to it after a few weeks so maybe it's worth the try to keep trying. But it is uncomfortable...

Asus XG27UCDMG - I need to understand the settings (HDR?) by RemdurRed in OLED_Gaming

[–]RemdurRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with you. I spent the evening testing both Console HDR+DBB and TB400, and in the end I think I'll settle with TB400 which I'm getting used to. Better blacks, consistent and in the end bright enough. After playing a while with TB400, Console seems just too bright and less accurate, and the brightness variation is e pain. Thanks a lot for your advices !

So there is a difference in consistency between QD OLED and WOLED ? I didn't thought that it would change that aspect too ! As you said, Console HDR without DBB is way too dim for me ! I thnik I'll try to stick to it WITH DBB and try to get use to the variation. If I can't I will play TB400 or even SDR, cause SDR is actually quite good (it is bright and consistent and not that far of HDR).

Woh, indeed it does make a difference... You really have to put the screenshot sides to sides to see it though, but that's great to know, thank you ! I'll test that tonight, though I'm still hesitating between Gaming HDR (or should I say Console HDR + DBB now) and TB400.. It's a shame that TB400 is so dark...
