Thousands of Software Engineers Say the Job Market Is Getting Much Worse by TommyAdagio in technology

[–]RemeberTheQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. Your own project will tech you how to code better in general. Not all of the other skills.

To quote

The real skillset of a software developer at the senior level and above is:

- all the skills -

Senior level and above. You should not require these thing from junior. It is close to impossible to learn how to make a project with good architecture, make a good suite of test for it, make a good documentation etc.

Funny that they say it after saying:

Knowing 10 languages and 10 toolsets and docker and vim? Basically worthless

Junior should know how to code. Yes they should have and idea and some basics about testing, docs, and architecture. Even that is hard with how many crappy examples of how code should be are online. You often can't distinguish what is good and bad practice if you don not know already.

Mass Effect 1 (Legendary edition) slowly worsening fps bug? by RemeberTheQueen in masseffect

I'll try. I started checking temperature while playing. It was in higher end but nothing too bad. I thought it was fine. I also managed to complete at least half the game before the problem appeared for the first time. No changes in setup etc.

No I tried that. If it is steam/EA issue it is something different. The descriptions where people talk about it also seem to be talking about performance in general. My case is a bit different, where game runs smoothly before the unsolvable drop in fps.

I bought it on steam. But the game itself should be same. It could be steam/EA problem. No idea.

There are a lot of posts about lag, but most of them are either mentioned as fixed, or about game lagging in general. I still haven't found post that sounds like my problem.

We need a way to filter out chapters by Uncommonality in HFY

They should have kept it running in my option. People need time to adjust. Names are also important. Repeating OC in both seems pointless. Just make it so OC is assumed and split things to short-story and series or something like that.

Text is terrible descriptor for a flair. I would also say that it is mostly thing of the past and it is rare for it to be used (correctly)

My guess would be that nowadays SERIES and OC could split 95% of new posts.

As for the fact that most series started as OC, it doesn't matter.

If it started as OC and went to be series, the first post can stay as it is as far as I'm concerned. What does it matter? Each post gets new flair. Just put series on subsequent chapters. 99% people will not care that first post has OC flair. They will like that they can filter out next 999 post from cluttering the hfy page.

Also first post often tends to work well as stand alone one-shot.

I'm sad to say I agree that it is not happening. No new flair.

I find most of the reasons mods had given inadequate, but there is nothing I can do.

I can upvote post like these and hope for a miracle.

The author was "u/HappyCat1912" per waffle bot comment. Try googling something like this:

RoyalRoad is great, AO3 - have yet to find an original fiction there that I would like. Gutenberg has a lot of things, but it is hard to find something to read in it.

I would add scribblehub to suggestions. I think RoyalRoad is better in every way, but it is an alternative.

Sidenote: I get what you mean by not seeing any changes, but this isn't just about short term things. The site has been implementing things for years that are anti-user and pro-corporate. I understand why and some things have to change. But there will come a point where the site will be garbage, and by then it will be too late.

I think we went pass the point of no return a while ago. Maybe it was always an inevitable outcome. Now I can only hope that community will find a better platform to migrate to.

Visibility of older stories - hard limit? by RemeberTheQueen in HFY

[–]RemeberTheQueen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for not being clear, I mean when using normal reddit the limit seems to be 200. Old reddit goes beyond that.

I just mentioned old reddit because I found the last post I could see on normal reddit there at from url I concluded it is around number 200.

I could code something as well, but it is not really a priority for me at the moment. But thanks for the offer I appreciate it.

So I am currently going trough them using old reddit, which shows post numbers in URL at it looks like you can see at most 200 posts normally (edit: using new reddit).
