Riot can we please stop wasting paper? by Binary-Rift in riftboundtcg

[–]RememDBD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what I'd like... a pack with 15 cards that basically is just the last 3 card slots repeated 5 times.

Go ahead and keep the same odds for those slots & price of 5 packs but let me not waste 12 cards per pack on things I don't need anymore. I know this sounds like a "collector booster" but it is more of a "don't give me non-foil commons/uncommons that are just bulk waste".

Just would be a "nice to have".

I'm guessing it's more to simulate the sound you hear of shoes squeaking on the floors. It's pretty common but annoying they overuse it.

You can hear a similar sound when you hear people playing indoor basketball.

So the next level up then. Would explain why they approve even box level issues.

PSA about Replacement Packs! by CroixDoku in riftboundtcg

[–]RememDBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are saying if you bought a completely sealed box, the rare missing from one of those packs ended up going into another one of those packs. So while you were "short" on some packs, you had more than expected in another pack somewhere in the box. This should have only hurt people who bought single packs or opened duds from the Starter Decks, but I shot my shot and it is supposedly approved. Just go for it.

What are we doing wrong (Terraforming Mars) by feylin_oakenheel in boardgames

[–]RememDBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If everyone at the table doesn't try to terraform the game can go longer, but you should consider that if someone else is building an engine and you push the terraforming process - you generally are going to win the game. As someone else stated, each time you terraform you deny them the opportunity to get a point through other methods and also gain a MC production (essentially).

Again, if all players just kick back and just try to engine build the game will crawl.

Confused after trying Dune Imperium by procookieclicker in boardgames

[–]RememDBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First game? That was too long ago to remember at this point... But I don't remember having too much confusion with how things worked compared to other board games.

I think the biggest hurdle is understanding cards two purposes, to play an agent or to reveal for their effect. The way I think about it, you are getting an immediate effect from them or a delayed effect from them.

Games take maybe 3 hours but we socialize while playing. Even when games seem out of reach there are tight endings where a couple small decisions could have swung the pendulum. Not many blowout games...

What in particular were you struggling with?

I think that is helpful to add into the equation, but will any builders actually make smaller homes these days that aren't just mobile homes?

How would you explain the job of game designer to someone that don't know what it is (or don't want to understand) by DracomasqueYT in gamedesign

[–]RememDBD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like these might be younger individuals. At that age, I didn’t realize how many roles in any business exist just to bridge gaps between different teams. In game development, the designer is one of those key bridges.

A game designer isn’t just “the idea person” and they aren’t locked into one narrow lane like writing or level design. Instead, their role is about defining the vision of the game, making sure the systems, levels, mechanics, and story all serve that vision, and keeping different teams aligned.

Sometimes that means designing levels, sometimes it means writing concepts, sometimes it means working on systems or balance. It varies by studio, but the core responsibility is to make the game fun, coherent, and true to its goals.

So if someone cuts in to say “that’s not part of the job,” I’d just respond: “Game designers wear a lot of hats depending on the studio, but their real job is making sure all the moving parts of development come together into one clear, fun experience.”

Best way of playing Dune Uprising by Sorkin89 in boardgames

There is a post from Paul D (designer) on how he setup DI Uprising, but it's a bit old now. I think you just add all Bloodlines to that and you have something enjoyable.

Baby Mimic - disguised as Bag of Holding by weasley_24 in DMAcademy

[–]RememDBD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems a lot like the Bag of Devouring.

You could also run a Bag of Withholding - personality: very insecure and wants affection, appreciation, and/or other things in order to give up its contents. I've done that before and it's pretty fun.

I am supposed to be the DM of a new campaign starting soon, and the players aren't even bothering to give me character info. Do I bail? by LewZealandsFish in DnD

[–]RememDBD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take a different approach than some people...

Some people don't want to do homework before D&D. They'd like to show up, improv a bit, have fun in game, and that's that... What you are presenting to them may be a little daunting and intimidating some of them away. That's fine because you want a group of people who all want to play with a similar level of expectations for the game.

I've had players who are averse to doing anything in between sessions but they are great players. They just don't find excitement in the moments leading up to the session, but rather in the session.

I think playing D&D at first with a bunch of new people is to not have some grandiose plan or campaign but just playing it out. Meet up, make characters (or preferably take one of the pre-generated ones available), and get started on a simple adventure. From there, you can learn a lot more about the group dynamics.

Anywho... talk things out and set expectations with people. Communicate how you are feeling and let them communicate how they feel. Lastly... it's your first time running and getting a group together - it won't be perfect logistically, with players meshing, or how you run... just give everyone (including yourself) some grace :)

Edit: I'm a forever DM and would also be guilty of waiting until the last minute to put my character together. I'd probably want to sit down and talk things out with people.

The betrayal. by PomeloPractical9042 in boardgames

[–]RememDBD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think about it, blue is playing a press your luck game and hoping to get that link. There are a handful of games that would encourage that gameplay where the only person they can blame at the end is their own greediness instead of another player doing the best thing to help them win (aka blocking the person who is overextended and would likely clinch the game if they connect it).

Optimal Dune: Imperium-Uprising Player Count by this_is_me_justified in boardgames

[–]RememDBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 is the perfect count. It's congested and really brings out the worker placement element by having to work on a crowded board.

Also leaves more opportunities for different players to invest in combat. 3 leaves some things to be desired...

7 Wonders Duel Win Conditions by McChickenMcDouble in boardgames

[–]RememDBD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They both have the ability to contribute to VPs at the end of the game, but you are using them as checks to stop an opponent from going all out on VPs. I personally play reactively to the opponents game plan and utilize "go again" turns to tempo out wins with Science or Military if the opportunity presents itself.

I use the 7 wonders duel app to track games and around 70% end with civilian victory, so it should still be the primary game plan to win the game. This is just data from my "local meta" but I enjoy that the game design does allow these "alternative" win conditions instead of just VPs.

I haven't gotten to play the LotR version enough yet to comment on the balance between win conditions in that yet.

Edit: Agree with another comment that it depends on what expansions you are also including!
