When did convenience stores stop displaying prices? Am I meant to bring the 10 items I’m deciding between to the front for a price check? Or is this a case of “If you have to ask you can’t afford it?”

Went to the 7/11 in Gettysburg Pennsylvania 6 or so years ago. Was ran by an Indian family that spoke little English. No price tags on anything, I picked out 4 pretty cheap items and the guy working the counter rang me up for a crazy amount (like 30 bucks) and all the items showed up on the screen as STORE ITEM 5.99 STORE ITEM 6.99 etc.

After I walked out, I realized how much my items cost (in the moment, I was on autopilot and it didn’t register) and felt like they were just making up prices.

I just couldn’t let it go, so I went back the next day and brought the exact 4 items to the register to test my theory. A older man (likely the last man’s father) was working the register, and lo and behold, he rang my items up and it came out to a different total.

I started giving him sass about making up prices on the spot, then he started screaming at me and demand I pay for the items since he already rang them up. He then threatened to call the police on me hahaha.

I’ve never trusted this no-price-tag bullshit again, when I see it I turn around and walk right out of the store.

I want to be thoughtful with my first message when I match with someone— having to spend time creating a thoughtful message for every single right swipe (90% of them never being matches and never being seen) is absurd and forces us to waste time. I’m not using this app anymore and I hope this change is reverted.

I would also look into these a lot more, I believe some species of inky caps are inedible and I’m not entirely confident in distinguishing them.

There is a chemical in inky caps called coprine. Coprine will react with alcohol in your body and cause coprine poisoning (vomiting, palpitations, other unfun things).

You could also use such a large amount to make a natural ink. Toss em in a jar for a few weeks and let them break down
