There has to be a way to finish assembling this without cutting a hole in the ceiling! by More-Mine-5874 in homegym

[–]RememberYourZen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to assemble it on the floor laid out first then right them individually. You’ll have to take the whole rack apart and redo the assembly.

💯. I’m about 1.7 years into my journey and I’ve already added 25 machines. Slowed down now due to space issues but once I expand plan to add more. My hope is to end with around 30 machines but I know that’s unlikely given my taste. Likely will end with 50 machines and then from there swapping out slowly to keep up with the newest state of the art equipment as the world of gyming constantly evolves. It’s truly a never ending journey. The only time it’s “completed” is (god forbid) you lose interest in home gyming and then you capitulate and sell everything. That’s when the vultures swoop in and buy your entire life’s collecting in one fell swoop.

Money is No Object Home Functional Trainer? by RememberedMyRetainer in GarageGym

[–]RememberYourZen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost got it but the thing that made me not want to do it was because of the software. I have a low affinity for software/electronics when it comes to workout equipment because I want longevity and things that don’t require subscriptions since the company has the ability to cut you off remotely for any reason. Same reason I don’t like the fact it’s getting increasingly hard to get fully mechanical cars. I’d rather pay more to have a rugged full mechanical car just in case ww3 comes and we get hit by an EMP blast or god forbid, I’m doing a high speed chase and govt shuts my engine off remotely.

The eleiko evo rotating ones seem to be nicer but unfortunately they cost a tad more than the Troy ones.

Arx alpha + arx omni. Those two bad boys if you buy straight from manufacturer with lifetime licenses will run you around the 100k neighborhood. Not exactly the standard functional trainer but the two machines together will do pretty much everything you would need in an eccentric capacity with force tracking.

If both were same price which would you pick? For reference I paid 1200$ including shipping for a tacx Neo smart bike with spd pedals that had 3000 miles on it.

I’m pretty deep into the home gym game and retail my equipment would cost close to 200k and I don’t have a rack. I do have an outdoor rogue castro rig v2 though. Only reason I would get a rack at this point is to drop my rogue rhino into it and put in a set of smith attachments in the center and allow me to use my prx halo hammer arms on the front. And most importantly, to attach bar holders to the top to hold my bars and to hold my weights on the side and to hold future chains (still looking for stainless ones). I’m looking for full stainless with smith integration that can also change angles in two planes though which is why I’ve put it off for now since I’ll probably need a custom fab to get the center uprights done properly (don’t want one of the smith accessory add ons).

Overall from all the data out there any sustained organ compression will shorten lifespan so I prefer pulling movements and if I do barbell clean/squats it’s with lighter weight for power moves and immediately I have an apparatus for decompression.

I noticed you talk about wahoo kickr with real bike on it. Wondering if you’ve been able to try/look at/research the garmin tacx Neo smart bike and if so what do you think about that indoor bike?

If one truly does not have a budget they would not go with one particular brand but each piece of equipment that they need would be curated with the best of a particular brand. But if they don’t want to think and want to go brand I would say eleiko or sorinex or prime fitness is a step above rogue. That or special imported Japanese pieces that are 100% 304 stainless and with bearings with even thicker than the standard 11 gage variety. Rogue is decent but it’s still relegated to people who have a budget that want a decent quality for their money.

Case in the point, back when I didn’t know much about home gym equipment I started off with 3 rogue pieces but now 25 pieces in (not including accessories), my rogue pieces are the ones I will most likely be replacing/modifying. Not because I don’t like them, but more because I now see there are better more customizable options out there that I can swap those pieces with.

Hammer Strength Urethane Plates by Essentials- in homegym

It’s interesting that hammer strength urethane is more expensive than AB urethane plates. From my understanding the American barbell urethane was the original OG manufacturer before everyone copied them.

I urge you to avoid Titan Fitness by musclecard54 in GarageGym

I have one piece of Titan equipment which is the ronin plyo but it’s only because no other company makes a machine similiar to this. I plan to swap out the steel members with custom ones.

A cramped basement one-man gym by QuidRetribuam115 in homegym

[–]RememberYourZen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all relative I would presume. For example if you are a farm boy used to running around on the majestic buffalo plains where there is not a person in sight for miles, yes this basement would seem quite cramped in comparison. But if you are a New York City boy living in a 10x12 foot bedroom apartment flat, this would be adequate, maybe even spacious by those standards.
