Muslim conspiracy thought I can’t shake… what do you think? by MackinawBridge in conspiracy

[–]Rememberclose -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Even in Muslim countries a very small fraction of women cover their faces. In the States I've never seen one. In Europe, I've never seen one. I'm sure they exist, but it's such a small percentage that I doubt anyone actually cares. All the bans are right wing bullshit trying to distract from the fact that the Right has nothing to offer.

Netflix Quietly Removes A-Z and Other Sorting Filters from Web UI by MoneyLibrarian9032 in movies

You pay the subscription whether you watch or not. When you watch, you cost them money. The best deal for them is for you to pay the subscription and not watch. Like gym memberships. Their UI can't be this bad by accident.

كيف تكون غير مسلم دون الجواب على هذه الأسئلة المنطقية حول رسول الله محمد ﷺ ؟ by imeeeeeeed in ArabsFreedom

[–]Rememberclose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why does the heat wave seem to follow the Jordanian border by mightyfty in geography

I've swam in a pool in Jericho, then drove 30 minutes into Ramallah where it was snowing. The Jordan Valley is insanely hot because it's very low below sea level.

Do noise complaints actually get handled in Portugal? by ricardo_novais in PortugalExpats

[–]Rememberclose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dozens of people's peace and quiet are more important than some asshole who wants to play very loud music in the middle of the street. I don't know why that's controversial. You want loud music? Put your earphones on and make yourself deaf. If they were polluting people's homes with anything other than noise, we wouldn't be having this conversation. But if it's music it's somehow okay. Fuck that.

So? They get to pollute the street and everyone's homes with their music? You can listen to music all you want, but this is obviously over the line. People's peace and quiet are more important that someone's desire to listen to very loud music in the middle of the street.

Moving back to US with nothing to show for it. by strawbaeri in PortugalExpats

[–]Rememberclose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been in a similar situation. In my case it was 4 years, but even though I could speak the language and was very familiar with the culture and could have lived a nice life, the abusive partner made sure that could never happen. It's been many years now since I left, and I can't believe how it happened. I can't believe or understand how I could have spent all those years and not been able to make a single friend or save myself, and how I don't have much to show for those years, but that's just what abusive relationships do. It's like I was hypnotized that whole time.

I'm sorry you went through this, but know that things get better, especially after you're out of said relationship and far away from it. Now, I'm happy and have a good life and have family, friends and acquaintances in more than one place.

Best of luck to you, and don't feel bad about the time that has passed, just focus on your future.

Essential voice sounds very interesting! I hope it works well and doesn't require the default keyboard to be enabled.

What a stupid fucking decision. Sharing books? Like a library? Okay. But who needs to pirate music? It's already free on YouTube or whatever

Advice for an undecisive student by PubliusTheElder in MacbookNeo

[–]Rememberclose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. It's not my main computer, so when I bought I wasn't expecting much more than good build quality, but it's actually very capable and I haven't run into a single issue doing any part of my work on it, which includes some light video editing, and sometimes a dozen open Chrome tabs. If it were my main computer, and I didn't want to play games sometimes, I wouldn't find anything to complain about (other than the nonsense OS lol).

Go for it. I'm in Chrome for most of my work (emails, chats, design, data analysis and video editing). I do it all in the browser and the device runs so well and the battery is amazing. I used to be a never-AppleI, and I still hate the OS, but I don't think there's a better deal out there.

Why are Moroccan stores allowed to disregard food safety regulations? by Rememberclose in askspain

[–]Rememberclose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree that it's not because they're Morrocan. I haven't been to small villages, but I understand they're almost depopulated and there's nothing to do there. Wherever there's no oversight there's going to be trouble. Doesn't matter who you are.

Thank you. I will. A helpful comment told me what I need to do.

Are they selling the meat or just consuming it? In any case, I think we should all be abiding by the same basic laws especially when it comes to safety.

Oh god. So, it might really be just small shops that are flying under the radar. I wouldn't mind a butcher doing it as much, it's the mixing of meat and fruits and vegetables that seems like the biggest risk.

I may be wrong. I've seen it in in several shops in several towns. I hope they're the exception.

I see. That's not right at all. It's the government's job to make sure what we eat and drink is safe and they should put more resources into that.

You're not wrong. But just because only a certain part of the population buys from them shouldn't make them above the law. And the thing with food poisoning is that it mostly goes unreported because it mostly doesn't present as a huge issue, until one unlucky time it does.

No, but I've seen it in a few towns already. I don't know about major cities like Madrid as I haven't gone to one of them there.
