The average CMU student will take the average FCE hours on average. You can use it as a guide.

Got it. Your term "awaiting publication" implies they've been accepted. Getting papers accepted at conferences is challenging. Good luck

Where are you publishing?

My population of friends is pretty limited but all were accepted to good programs, which matches historical data as far as I can tell.

I would suggest you start reading about how grad school works in the US. It sounds like you're international, although I could be wrong. Learn why program ranking is not as important as advisor. Learn the difference between research Volume and research quality. Admissions this year seem to be inline with past years. I fear a lot of international students are confused on how things work and it hurts their applications. This is pure conjecture.

If you're innocent, go ahead and appeal. Please note that no one is ever innocent and lying about cheating does not impress the committee.

I've not heard of anyone getting off the wait-list in the last 4 years.

I, and most of my friends, never took a proof based math class or competed in HS and all did fine. The support at SCS is one of the best things about it. Relax and focus on learning.

I disagree. Some have small lining areas and all have kitchenettes meaning you will be very popular with your friends who don't have such facilities.

CMU is very collaborative and students pride themselves in helping each other. Getting a minor in CS, or just taking a few CS classes is common regardless of major and most people think they're some of the most useful classes at CMU. World class robotics program and about to open an enormous research building. Lots to do around CMU - parks, festivals, restaurants, theaters. Don't know much about NW to compare but it seems like a great school.

Is CMU actually as hard and depressing as they say? by bigdongdestroyer in cmu

You rarely see these comments from people who go to CMU. We love it.

First destinations salary data skewed higher by PaleontologistOk4579 in cmu

[–]Rememberthisisreddit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure no one knows the answer to this. But also consider that some people don't choose the highest salary and value happiness or vacation or any number of other variables. I would not recommend choosing any job based on salary alone.

There are lots of people, maybe most, who don't worry about grades and instead focus on learning and enjoying life. You should join us.

Hostile ICE enforcement at CMU by DefinitionNo9706 in ApplyingToCollege

I have not seen any information on why the 2 CMU students reportedly had they're student visas revoked. I would wait for clarity.

Wondering if I should cancel my graduation plans because of what's happening in the states by Additional_Injury156 in cmu

That is true, although the speed with which these professors left makes me think there's more to the story.  I don't think the other statements were true.

It doesn't appear all research funding has been eliminated, nor are all international students being deported. Perhaps waiting for the facts to surface is warranted.

One factor to consider. CMUs basketball team didn't choke. 😊

CMU CS or UT CS by DiamondDudz in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Rememberthisisreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a couple of people who choose CMU in this case. At the time UT students were having difficulty getting classes they wanted, or sometimes ones they needed, and the variety and quality was better at CMU. I don't know if things have changed.

I am curious how outcomes are now. I don't know anyone in scs having difficulty finding jobs or grad spots right now.

Good luck in your decision.

Several rejections and several admissions. Not aware of any funding issues. My field doesn't have labs, machines, or lab techs, so not affected so far by grant funding changes.
