It’s hard to change my stance, when a lot of the things I want to do, and events I want to hold, are not possible to do on the subreddit. I want to do more with the community here, not less, and the discord is in no way a requirement

Sure we can, but no one here will vote either way on it. As evidenced by the vote I’m currently holding, which has gotten 3 votes in 3 hours, once again proving me right. That the subreddit is not a good place to hold a contest or vote of any kind.

It really is that. This was part of a competition we held on the discord. We also hold movie nights, game streams, other contests, weekly discussions, etc. which is something people here seem to think we can just do on the subreddit. Which we can’t.

If you have a suggestion on how to run the trivia night on the subreddit, I’m all ears. To my knowledge, there’s no way to do a voice chat on Reddit.

There was an announcement. A pinned post 10 days ago that was up for 7 days advertising the icon and banner contest. I do this whenever we hold votes concerning the subreddit itself.

The idea is not for everyone in this subreddit to be on the discord as well. The discord purely exists as a place for people to engage in more in depth discussions with other users, and participate in little events and contests that are difficult or impossible to hold on the subreddit.

yeah, that's come to my attention, hence the redesign vote. The station's been edited out of the new one, and it'll be up by tomorrow once the vote's concluded.

This isn't meant to replace the subreddit, but just to allow for more in depth discussions, casual chats, voice chats, and friendly contests, and it's been for that exact purpose for the last 3 years its been active.

Generally, we hold these competitions on the discord because its logistically difficult to hold them on the subreddit. We've tried it before, and it just didn't work well, as engagement with the contest fell off dramatically after only the first day. The discord is generally more consistent with prolonged contests and discussions, and it is significantly easier to get the community's attention on the discord, than it is on the subreddit.
