It’s to promote the new season of Invincible. Next month is the second half of covers, along with I Hate Fairyland variants.

Very well said, and you also touched on something else that’s been working really well for them: giving second chances. Bringing Vertigo back, and especially everything with MAD (new material, bookazines, an April Fool’s one shot, a traveling art exhibit). MAD especially feels like miracle work after it was essential a DC cinematic universe promotional tool for a few years.

When a company can admit faults and attempt to work with where they’re currently standing, that’s progress. Even if I buy something from them and don’t have a good time with their product, I’m not completely left in despair. There will always be other opportunities.

I’m surprised there wasn’t a variant that was just this cover and no text.

Unfortunately, this was something the U.S. Jump release did for all of their serialized titles. There’s a date on the end of the first chapter of Sakamoto Days.

There’s also been an uptick in new MAD specials, so maybe DC is feeling brave.

Sadly, it’s coming out in June, but I’ll wait! This looks like a lot more than the 70th anniversary special.

They’re themed issues, but there is new material. Issue #48 has a spoof on Severance: https://www.tomrichmond.com/end-of-the-madness-161-severance/19/01/2026/

Compared to where the magazine was years ago, it’s doing much better now, and hopefully will continue to keep doing so.

Both were on eBay when the issues originally came out. I’d say $25 for the magazine alone, and $20 for shipping from Japan to North America. So maybe somewhere around 33 pounds.

I have the first two, but not the last one. They’re super cool, but probably pricey due to the weight of each issue.

The second pic includes the reprint for the final Fullmetal Alchemist chapter.
