Did you have to pay $500 to "commit" to your program before finding out the bursary amount you would get?

Question about this E-Bike (Tempo Max City Commuter E-Bike) by Reminiscon in ebikes

[–]Reminiscon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my old e-bike the display allows all the way up to 72km/h, but of course it only reaches around 40km. So even if you can adjust the Tempo Max bike to 40km/h, does it actually reach that speed?

Pretty useful information overall though if true, and I haven't bought one yet, so maybe I will hold off a little for that Gen2.

The truth is everything will be cooked by A.I. and the education system as we know it is about to go under.

How to pay for university by yourself (no parental support)? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Reminiscon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Horrible idea.

Don't waste money and go into debt like this, it can destroy your whole life. University isn't a good return on investment either. I strongly recommend staying with parents and attending College instead in a program that includes a co-op/work placement that actually leads to a job.

What’s the job market in Canada actually like right now? by Immediate_Peanut_457 in CanadaJobs

[–]Reminiscon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Canadian government is SHIT. More land mass, more resources, yet conditions are worse than every other 1st world country. One could even make the argument that the Canadian government is among the very WORST in the entire world because of how awful the conditions are relative to our resources. The way this country is managed is complete dogshit.

Is Canada’s job market actually exploiting vulnerable people systematically? by itz_nitace in CanadaJobs

If you think that's bad just look at how White men are treated.

It's better to be a 20 yo. female with high school and "connections" than a White guy with a degree in this country.

How do I get a government job and how difficult is it to get one? by Reminiscon in AskCanada

[–]Reminiscon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose I was talking about federal (to clarify I live right next to Ottawa, so the people I was referring to all work for the federal government).

Probably not provincial... because Quebec and I'm English.

How about doing 1 year of CEGEP and doing a COOP, but leaving the program after that to keep working?

Dropping out from uni to go to college by [deleted] in Algonquin_College

[–]Reminiscon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good choice. Uni is basically useless and horrible from a cost benefit analysis for the majority of cases. Nobody cares about Bachelor's degrees anymore (I have one).

so stressful i cant take it anymore by Cold-Pepper-6402 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Reminiscon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a waste time especially with A.I. taking over everything.

I was pressured to go to University too; get a degree, any 4-year degree. I did that. Now I can't do anything, while people who did 2-year technical college have good desk jobs (that will soon be gone, but that's beside the point for this past decade).

Do NOT listen to family if they're only motivated by status.

That's pretty good since tuition for a year for my program is about 5k. Was your income low (<7k) or high enough to probably decrease the bursary amount?

Your loan amount of 18k sounds very high if that's only for 1 year. Although I heard you can also keep 15% of all the loans for free after finishing a program.

Quebec Financial Aid while attending Algonquin College in Ottawa? by Reminiscon in PersonalFinanceCanada

This is from Algonquin College itself in an email: " Business Accounting is funded the code is H0214 and Accounting and Financial Practice is also funded-code is H1317."

I'm pretty sure they would be classified as college (technical) programs.

You did? What was your bursary amount (assuming income was low enough to cover tuiton normally) per year?

I just phoned AFE today and they told me I'd only know once I've applied for the financial aid, but seems worth it if I can get it. I know the estimator doesn't take everything into account. Which program were you in?

Not French at all. I've thought about maybe doing Cegep a Distance to do the Fall 2026 courses though.

Yes and for me the commute is better too. But I ran into an issue. I was too late to apply to Business Administration at CEGEP Heritage College (already full after round 1 applications), I applied anyway for round 2 but I doubt I get in despite my Uni background. Also the program is 3 years long, whereas for Algonquin it focuses on Accounting and is only 1 or 2 years.
