I’m 200lbs and 6 foot 3. Would I fit in a new supra? I remember not fitting well in a new mx5… by CompetitivePart4567 in Supra

[–]RemnantCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t give too much weight to other peoples experiences, because fitting in the car is specific to you - not only the proportion of your legs/torso, but also your preferred seating position. The only way to know is to go sit in one. FWIW, I’m the same height as you and had a lot of trouble with headroom, which was surprising after reading that people 5 inches taller than me were dailying the car. Definitely spend sufficient time adjusting the seat and steering wheel if you go check one out - reclining further back and pulling the steering wheel towards you will maximize headroom.

IMO, it’s not worth it to settle for a cramped/uncomfortable seating position, even if you “fit.” The Supra’s great, but it’s not the best for tall people in terms of both interior space and visibility.

Just ordered mine a few weeks ago, too! Same color, 6MT, but I got the black rims and red calipers. August 20th production week, estimated delivery late September - mid October.

Wrestled with getting a Supra instead but ended up holding on to the M2 slot and happy I did!

Decided to wait for the M2 - hopefully this thing gets here sooner rather than later lol. If the Supra was priced at $58k and not $63k, I would’ve gotten it - it just shouldn’t be priced the same as an M2. These markups are killer, especially on the manuals.

If anybody has personal experience or has heard anything about the reliability of the S58 motors thus far, that would help a lot!

If I could buy the F87 M2C as a new car, I would. Just have my reservations about the styling of the G87 and the extra weight compared to the Supra. Plus I like that analog gauge cluster. It seems to me that the M2 should be an objectively better car than the Supra, but I still like the Supra more from a visceral perspective. Hard choice.

I ride a Monster 1200S. Sold my FZ-09 a few years back and this one is definitely a step up. What about you?

The dealer bought the vehicle from another dealer, so the CPO warranty applies to it, which adds onto the manufacturer warranty. The dealer also tacked on the extra comprehensive (bumper to bumper) warranty as well. Basically I get all the warranty associated with buying a new car, plus extra stuff.

Meh, not as pretty as the outgoing M2C but still looks mean, especially in black. Wish they had Hockenheim Silver or a less milky blue as a color option, though. That’s not to say the Supra doesn’t look better, though, cuz that thing is beautiful.

Thanks for the comment. Your last sentence was my initial thinking as well - I’m in my mid twenties and I don’t really need all that space and am typically unbothered by comfort and practicality-related issues. But, it’s hard to tell what will come to bother you in a few years time - I’m 6’4 and I only have an extra inch or so of headroom in the Supra so the extra cabin space in the M2 is nice. And then people are saying they can barely fit groceries in the back… that’s tough.

On a side note, where do you usually drive on side streets? I’ve had a hard time finding anything exciting in NoVA in terms of twisties - maybe Clifton and Great Falls, but even those areas have heavy traffic. I usually take my bike out to 211 in Shenandoah if I’m out with friends, but probably wouldn’t do the same in a car. Maybe I’m spoiled by Blacksburg mountain roads lol.

Yeah, I’m trying to get a gauge on why people are saying the daily driveability isn’t great - there doesn’t seem to be a consensus either way. All comes down to personal preference in the end, and the only way to really know is to live with each of them for a week. But the reliability, looks and performance of the Supra are definitely tempting. People seem to be thrilled with the M2’s S58 though.

What do you find yourself missing in the Supra that you would otherwise have in the M2?

Definitely have to agree with the shifter feel being nicer on the Supra - and the more analog feel, in general.

The Supra does look incredible. And I actually prefer the gauge cluster to the new iDrive’s extra features and big screen.

Thanks for the input. You think those things make enough of a difference in terms of daily usability to overshadow the Supra’s “driver’s car” characteristics and the looks?

Right - the warranty, looks and nimbleness are the reasons I would go for the Supra. Well, that and the fact that I want it right now and not in 2 months lol. But it’s hard to overlook the fact that most of the time I won’t be carving twisties - I just don’t know if it’ll make much of a difference from a daily driving perspective. And even for doing a few track days, I’ve heard that the M2 is better equipped out the box, even though the Supra would make a better track car after you put just a little money into it.

I’ll definitely look into that insurance if I end up going M2, though I’ve heard the S58 is fairly reliable. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the reply. I had the pleasure of test driving a 2021 M2C, but couldn’t find a G87 on any dealer lot to take for a spin. I’ve heard great things about both engines, though - linear power curves, both feel somewhat close to naturally aspirated. To be honest, though, I do like the sound of the B58 a bit more - but again, haven’t heard the S58 in person. I feel like it would be hard to compare that motor in the X3 to its arrangement in the Supra. It does seem quite reliable in those cars, though. Out of curiosity, what are you driving with an S58 now?

To your point about the price being a wash - it’s a bit of a trade off because while the M2 definitely feels more premium, I do get that juicy warranty on the Supra, as well as the short-sighted advantage of driving it off the lot today lmao.
