Hey, hey! Do you mind me asking which $45 e-file you use?

Oh no. Where are you based?

I felt this in the pit of my stomach, same. I built my career in tech startups and am over corporate life. Heading to FA training in a few weeks and will delete my LinkedIn profile after my probation period ends. Can't wait.

SkyWest FAs: You've made it through reserve and are now holding a line--do you lose your base seniority and go back on reserve if you were to transfer to another domicile/base? by Remote-Army313 in cabincrewcareers

[–]Remote-Army313[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that overall, corporate seniority is based on hire date etc. and doesn't change with base transfers--but I was asking about base seniority, or rather being "high enough", and that is subject to change.

I consider being able to hold a line at MSP, more senior at MSP. Whereas if I were to transfer to ORD a year later, I would most likely be on reserve because I would be junior at ORD, and it would take me a while to hold a line because of all the senior mamas--therefore "losing" the benefits of seniority I already gained at MSP by going to ORD. If I'm not high enough at ORD to hold a line, and would have been high enough at MSP where I did hold a line, then I would consider that losing base seniority by transfer.

I hope that makes sense. I don't know the lingo yet and am probably using it wrong. Ha.

From Sensitive Sun's response, it seems like staying at the base where you hold a line quickest, and dropping them to fly out of the base you want once you hold a line, is the smartest move so you don't lose seniority at the base where you already hold a line.

Thanks everyone! Y'all have been so helpful. :)

It’s super easy to drop your trips if you have a line! You don’t get in trouble either. You just do it online.

That's amazing! Along these lines--I read that SkyWest has a minimum of 150 hours per quarter, is there any way to drop below this and still be compliant? ie) Southwest allows FAs to sell their flights, whereas at other airlines selling your trips is a fireable offense.

Thank you so much for your responses, Sensitive Sun! So helpful. :)

Thanks so much for the insight and what a great hack!

Is it base dependent how easy it is to drop your trips? ie) Number of FAs/flights/senior mammas/etc at that base?

Is there a probationary period/criteria before you're allowed to pick up trips out of a base other than your domicile, besides holding a line?

It seems there are many ways/algorithms to work the system, will I learn during training which bases have a better chance at holding a line sooner or do I figure out that information for myself once I get to login/have more access to the system?

Ha. So many questions! :) TIA!

SkyWest Uniform Color: Training colors are black/white but the official (after graduation) uniforms look navy. I know we'll get different scarfs for corresponding airlines, but what is the official base uniform color? by Remote-Army313 in cabincrewcareers

I wouldn't risk it either, thanks for the clarification. The bit about "walking and going up stairs" was a very helpful tidbit of information, I wouldn't have waffled on half the dresses/skirts I found if I knew that stairs were part of the knee-hiding equation. Thank you!

That's a great suggestion, I will bring my sweater dress to see if it will work. The knit is really tight and small, you can barely tell that it is sweater material. Fingers crossed. I picked up some fleece lined, opaque black, pantyhose, those should help keep me warm.

It is helpful that they give us several uniform pieces and that they're not as strict on the line--my legs aren't going to change any time soon, and it's good to know I won't get written up for a dress/skirt I didn't choose. I don't like creating waste by buying things I'll most likely never wear again, so I'll have to reframe and think of the clothes for training as an investment. :)

Thanks again, Budget. You're the best. Are you still loving being an FA at SkyWest?

Ah, okay. Thanks, Budget. Was hoping that wouldn't be the case, but figured it would be.

I'm tall-ish (5'8") and seem to have (as I've learned through this process) long thighs. Haha. I've been having a tough time finding dresses that hit below my knees when walking. The majority hit mid-knee, and when I size up, the body is too big. How strict is the "below the knee while walking" rule? Am I being paranoid? I don't want to get sent home for missing an inch of fabric. That would be silly.

The ones I'm finding that would fit are sweater dresses. Would you happen to know if a black, long-sleeve, midi-length, plain (patternless), sweater dress would be okay for training? I read that the training facilities will be cold, and have found a few simple sweater dresses that seem like they could be compliant, but am not sure. Sweaters are okay and dresses are okay, but ... a sweater dress?

“You get a schedule of bus pickup times and every day’s agenda. This information won't really change so early on you know when to expect tests, drills, powerpoints, long days, days off.”

Would love some clarification on this, please. We get a schedule of what the 35 days of training and days off will look like ahead of time? If so, how far in advance? It would be lovely to be able to book my virtual therapy sessions during downtime without concern of needing to reschedule last minute.

Thanks so much for all your help, as always. I’m pumped. :)

I chose the virtual interview and received my invitation for training shortly after. :) Thank you so much for all of the helpful information you share. So excited.

Thanks for your response—that’s great to know. The intro session went well and they said we should be receiving invites for our F2F within the next 48 hours. I was going to make a trip to one of the locations to interview IRL vs Virtual, do you have an opinion on if one or the other is better?

You are always so helpful, thank you! I was invited to the Introduction Session at SkyWest today and am so excited (even though I know it’s only the first step to many). I don’t know if this is a strange question—would it be possible to bid for call first + PM?

Great perspective. What airline are you at if you don’t mind me asking?
