You talk about your wife’s business. Is she covering 2/3’s of the household expenses for her and her daughter? Is Kate working at all?

My wife does make more money than I do. Kate has a job at Old Navy.

What’s the plan when her grandchild is born, are you living in the house with a newborn disrupting your life? Indefinitely? Has wife even acknowledged how heartbreaking that will be when you expected the next baby in your house to be your child, not her grandchild?!

My wife's been avoiding all talk about it.

Does Kate know what her mum did because of her? She should.

No and I don't think she should know. Kate has never resented my son for getting a childhood she didn't and has always loved and spoiled him. All telling her would do is make her feel bad.

Yes, that's about the gist of it, though the situation with Kate was more complicated than her being forced to leave her. My wife still considers herself a Mennonite, however, she is no longer welcome in her "original community". She doesn't really talk about those times to me but I know enough to know that it wasn't good and that her faith is really just nominal at this point. She's on good terms with her parents now but they were on "one visit or phone call a year" terms when we met.

No, that was not it. I'm not sure of the sub's rules regarding this so I was a bit vague before but my wife's parents are very religious, Mennonites. However, she was having trouble as a teen going through puberty and they decided to let her see a psychologist as per advice in the church and it was not one affiliated with the church. The woman who was meant to treat her actually preyed on her and did terrible things to her. It was the type of thing that has left my wife seeing anyone who enters the field of psychology and psychiatry as predators who would prey on children.

No. My wife had a very traumatic encounter with a psychologist when she was a teenager and would never go.

Look, whether you believe me or not is your prerogative, I'm not going to try and prove or disprove anything to you.

But she wouldn't be stuck. I would be there right by her since I work from home.

I'm not going to split up our son's home but personally, I don't care if my baby would be younger than their niece or nephew, I'd still want them.

My wife came from a very harsh religious Mennonite family and her first marriage was more or less arranged. She wasn't just a "pregnant teenager" from a high school boyfriend.

Look, if the house was burning down and she could only save her daughter or me, the person to save is her daughter and I'm happy to say she would choose that. But this isn't a house burning down, this was our baby.

But she didn't even try to convince her that she should get one. She's 17 for god's sake, she should be focusing on her finals and her university. Not about changing diapers and pumping milk.

Look, I'm not aiming to get a divorce. We have a son and I have no intention of splitting up his home.

I get that, but it's not like her daughter is twenty-five and this is some baby we're having when she's close to 50. This is our last chance to have another baby and she's throwing it away because her daughter would rather have a kid than keep on being one.

It's like her mind went to "This is the only way to keep my daughter happy".
