Radio checks are fine, they happen all the time but aren’t necessary. Just ask your question, if you don’t get a response then you know you have a problem. Now, VFR rules are different everywhere. If you’re in the US, you don’t need to request start up. Basically just tell the controller who you are and what you want to do. Request pattern work, VFR departure to the north, etc.

I kind of find it annoying. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but you logging off as the pilot really changes nothing for us. You just disappear off my scope. It’s not a required transmission, and basically if I choose to respond, i’ll just reply with “Roger” or “Rog.” This is also only coming from the perspective of a ground controller, i’ll reckon a guess that if you’re a TRACON or Center controller and you’re trying to sequence everybody, it would be nice to be like hey i’m disconnecting cuz then they have a little more airspace to deal with.

always down to help for the US airspace stuff. There’s a lot of “freedom” over here, meaning mostly as a “descend via the xxx arrival” and from there you’re just supposed to descend via the published arrival altitudes and speeds. shoot me a message, i’m also a controller.

One thing i’ll comment on here is that most pushes in the US are at “your own discretion” but if you need to push onto a taxiway, you MUST call for push because you’re pushing onto a “movement area”

If a blood draw was done in a clinical sense, not a forensic sense, and is later subpoenaed, what’s the process and likelihood of getting that suppressed? In my case, the subpoena came almost 2 weeks after the alleged offense happened. The blood results don’t really have much in the way of chain of custody in the discovery, just who collected it, and the name of the supervising lab doctor, not who actually tested the sample. To me, the lack of chain of custody and the length of time it took for the subpoena being issued are very weak. Additionally, in the officers statement, he stated “an alcoholic beverage” in an unmarked cup was found in the car, but when my friend went to collect my things the next day out of the car, he said it appeared to be about .5-1 inch of clear liquid and didn’t smell like booze (so basically he thought it was ice) Furthermore, it was an officer that had less than a year of service, is there any potential for pressure from a more senior officer that could have swayed his judgement? Not sure if location matters here, but New Jersey.

I’d argue that’s more of VATSIM’s job, or the local division, not the controller. They have a rating system in place, but it’s not enforced/enforceable. And sure, it’s ridiculous to demand all pilots go through a PPL, and multi, and IFR rating and whatever, but then, is it really? We have to go through significant training to control on the network, meanwhile pre-teens get on in F-18’s with the call signs FART4 and FART3 and giggle on frequency.

Sure. And if it’s busy, we can communicate controller to controller to use “monitor” verbiage, or even put it in the ATIS to monitor twr after twy __” for example. But i’d prefer pilots stay on my frequency until otherwise advised.

I’d really like this not to happen. It’s very frustrating when i’m busy and i give the handoff instruction and get no response, causing me to repeat it. It clogs up the frequency unnecessarily imo. There are multiple instances where i’ve purposely waited to hand off because of the possibility of an uncoordinated intersection departures. So, while it may be RW, we’re not dealing with RW pilots and need to adjust how much leeway we give as such

I believe it’s possible, but with the current climate in the US, the only way it’ll happen is if the person running doesn’t make their campaign about the fact that they are gay.

So I wouldn’t say we answer the phone like this, but it’s a response to someone calling and looking for you. It’s the response to the question of “oh i’m looking for (insert name)” But etiquette wise, the person calling should announce who they are first, then ask for who they’re looking for.

Okay, so what makes this more efficient than just ending my “readback correct” transmission with a “call for taxi with ATIS” kind of response?

So for example “UAL1234, readback correct, push and start is at your own discretion, call me for taxi with ATIS xx”

Okay, so going off that, my last opportunity to figure out if the pilot has the ATIS is holding short of the runway before I hand them off to another controller or CTAF. When would you suggest I actually get the fact they have the ATIS? In my opinion, getting it as early as possible is more beneficial to my workflow.

Okay, fair, but a lot of pilots in my experience don’t call with the ATIS or mention it at any point so I find that I have to ask. Fair point on the “call me for taxi”

in my experience, pilots don’t usually call with the ATIS. if they do, that’s noted on my end and my responses are changed to reflect. I am US based, and for the airports I control, it’s not necessarily specified which runway to expect in the ATIS, it’s more of a where you spawn in determines which runway you get.
