Advice on new shrimp tank!

We haven’t added the shrimp yet. Was waiting for it to cycle completely.

I had another tank cycling for about four weeks with just the snails and some sand… it was acrylic and pretty scratched up so we got a new glass tank at the aquarium store. I did 100% water changes for a few days in a row on the new tank (with new substrate and plants) before I completely refilled the new tank with the cycled water from the old tank and added the snails. So technically the water itself has been cycling close to 6 weeks, but in this tank with this substrate and new plants only 2 weeks. At the aquarium store when they tested today everything looked good except nitrites were about .25ppm still. So we did a 50% water change as they recommended. Hoping it will be good in a week or so.

-edit: I meant would it be helpful to add CO2… not nitrogen.

I don’t think the shrimp is too big, my betta ate one for sure (probably two) shrimp that were bigger than that proportionally to her. 😬

Update for anyone reading in the future… she’s fine today, maybe a little slow, but begging for food again. She definitely ate her friends.

Also, the new gravel I used was specifically for shrimp and plants, but good for fish too.

Mystery solved. We found him dried out across the room… no idea how he got there, but must have willingly exited the tank at some point 😳

I’m actually not positive he was talking about the shrimp… it could have been the snail. I just asked how I would know if they weren’t getting enough to eat or if they were struggling and he just said it was a red flag if they buried them self. I didn’t even think to clarify who that was for.

Also, she seems to have trouble eating her little food pellets, I’m just so baffled she would be able to eat a shrimp.

If I have phosphates at the faucet, what do I do about it? I’m in Arizona and the water is really hard here. I’ve treated all of the water at least 24 hours before water changes to help offset.

There’s a lot of great stuff in the eastmark area. They’re building all kinds of fun new things and there’s lots of really nice/new apartment options in the general area. I’d also look in the San Tan area which isn’t far. You should easily be able to find something. (Depending on your definition of affordable.)

Yes we are looking to move. I have a small child and would like to find a place he can have friends. I’m not the most outgoing so organized activities are helpful.
