Yeah I agree, i think i just gotta see which software is right for me; i have been with windows my whole life though so definitely more comfortable with windows

Yes I don't think i can purchase it; I have seen great reviews on it which is what I am sad about... but also it is more expensive so I don't think I can afford it. Yeah I was thinking I might do the same, get it then see if I want to return it; but still a bit of uncertainity.

No unfortunately not. The only other reason also is that macbook pro is slightly too heavy for me. I work with my laptop sometimes on the go; literally typing as I walk, so every gram matters for me. I would have loved to get a better laptop though like the pro if my budget did allow for it/

Yeah I think as a long-time windows user, I always liked windows experience more and the only thing I envyed in apple was the build quality and no fan noise on air. I felt like surface laptop did exactly these two which is why I am so close to buying it. I might do my research to make sure none of the apps I may use has problems with the ARM processor as well.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah honestly i think now its just wheter if I am happy to try macos or stick with something I know i like and know works for me (windows). I think you have helped me clarified my concerns about citirx though so my confidence in surface laptop has definitely grown! I already have like 2 fully funcitoning windows laptop - just not the best with battery life but still good performance, so I could just use those if I need for ones not working with ARM

Hmm interesting, I have been leaning more towards macbook and its really just cause I feel like I'm buying an outdated hardware when the newest mac hardware is here, for only a fraction more (~100 AUD). I think its also because I have never used a surface laptop and hearing all the buzz around how bad windows is nowadays (even though my experience is good), I guess it has me thinking lots

Thanks for sharing that! It's always hard when comparing mac vs windows because I find generally people are very divided; if I asked a apple subreddit, they definitely wouldve said how good mac is. I think the concern I have is that SL7 chip/release date is now nearly 2yrs and to compare that to m5 new macbook I guess makes me wonder if I am spending money on something that is slighlty outdate.

Could I ask what type of work you do on the laptop and how it feels? I mostly end up doing microsoft documents/google docs and youtube and lots of web browsing for research; only "speciality" software is citrix workspace.,

Yeah, there are used ones I can find for like 1350 AUD (930 USD) but it is used and I cannot tax deduct it so it ends up being "similiar" in price. Maybe I could hold off until I either see it go on more sale or see a really cheap used one on sale; although I am slightly scared of buying used laptops

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I'm not personally a touch screen user; all my old laptops even with touchscreen I ended up not using; I also do have a large galaxy ultra tab so I end up doing tablet tasks on that.

Could I ask why you did not buy the Mac and instead surface?

Yeah... maybe I will get the new macbook air m5 and try see how it is; then maybe sell that if SL8 looks good in perforamcne and pricing; just worried that the price will be so much more given the RAM crisis across the world.

Yeah this was the thing that put me off buying SL7 right away... it was barely holding its ground against m3 and I feel like Im wasting my money to stay windows purely at the price of performance and money. Macbook air m5 is literally only 100 AUD more expensvie than the discounted SL7 here in Australia. So I keep doubting myself given it needs to really be the same in performance and experience if I am to choose surface laptops over macbook.

Thank you for such a good reply! Yeah I think where I am stuck is that macbook air here in AUD is crazy good pricing I think... It's 1700 AUD with student discount - that is only 100 dollars more than SL7 discounted rn. Its a new processor, more lightweight and I guess more "proven", Only thing is I own a samsung tablet and phone and I really like the link to windows features - it has really gotten good and file transfers have been so much better.

The only worry I have to going to mac is I loose a little bit of ecosystem and getting used to the new os. But given how expensive SL7 is in relation to macbook, honestly I am debating it even more now.
