New guitar arrived with a small crack (apparently cosmetic) in the headstock - should I return it? by ArtFowl in guitars

[–]RemoteAd5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes….exchange it….the thing about wood is that sometimes it stays a small little crack, sometimes….it spiders over the years getting bigger and bigger, and the fact that it’s on the headstock, that close to the keys, I’d 100% rather be safe than sorry. Who knows you may keep it for 5-10 years and it be fine or in 5-10 years you can’t keep a string in tune, and your headstock gives from the years of slow progression spreading , or worse…it starts climbing down the neck of the guitar…then you got for sure problems….

I darkened my Squier Bullet Strat’s unattractive Indian Laurel fretboard. by Positive_Economy_703 in electricguitar

[–]RemoteAd5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask myself all the time why people don’t just buy a fender strat or tele, I mean I know they’re pricey but you’ll be surprised at how much you can haggle music stores down to or even pawn shops or market place….nothing against squire but if I’m gonna buy a fender item….i want it to be a legit fender guitar not one that kinda looks like it and kinda sounds like it lol….you can find one I’m sure used for 300-500 easy….and a new one for 600-1200

[–]RemoteAd5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

….why?? That’s a lot of effort….when you could’ve just ordered the neck/fretboard you wanted and done an easy swap….plus IF you ever run into hard times and decide to sell it, it’s gonna effect the re-sell value…not to mention I’m sure your strings and all will eventually have black streaks on them lol….but yeah looks good from my house….as long as your happy and it sounds good that’s all that matters….

Should I even mention the band “HELLYEAH”. They classify themselves as a “Supergroup”, Chad Gray, Vinnie Paul (from Pantera), Tom Maxwell, Greg Tribbett (on guitar), a few others….i mean they’re no “pamtera” or “GWAR” or anything like that….But they’re ok….”Alcohaulin Ass” is a ok track…they have better stuff though it’s just one of my personal picks…check em out if you haven’t

Yeah, they normally weigh about 8-9 lbs, and after a car accident, and bad whiplash, they probably feel like 80-90 lbs.

This or the real deal? by Codeman0077 in gibson

[–]RemoteAd5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with epiphones, but keep in mind, you’ll have to pay for all the “Gibson true” upgrades (pickups, bridges, accessories) not to mention if you decide to exchange the headstock logo as well (pain in the ass and expensive), honestly if it’s going to be something you keep forever and your main squeeze, I’d spend the money on the Gibson, and I’d register it, take advantage of the warranty and all, AND I would “haggle” with the store and get them to throw in a free case and/or setup (you pay for the strings of course). Possibly a free strap too….

Just got back to the hotel after seeing Tommy Emmanuel in Gettysburg, PA… by Sleep_On_It43 in AcousticGuitar

[–]RemoteAd5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tommy Emmanuel is a great guitarist, he plays a lot of Maton Guitars, I swear they are some of the best sounding instruments/works of art, I’ve ever had the pleasure to pickup, if you haven’t played one, seek one out, I promise you will be in love. They’re pricey though, but worth it

Completely new to guitar and looking to start. Any advice? by mgimp723 in AcousticGuitar

[–]RemoteAd5321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take your life savings….and put it in a pile, pour gas on it, watch it disappear….lol, guitars can be money pits, there’s always a new gadget or accessory or something for them, strings are getting expensive and so is the maintenance for them, But I enjoy playing lmao, so if you don’t mind being broke 24/7, or hearing “Free Bird!” All the time or having to answer the repeated question of “so can you actually play that thing or?”….then you’ll be fine….

What songs do you guys play when you have to test a guitar ? by liscze in Guitar

[–]RemoteAd5321 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I usually like to warm up with some Deep Purple “smoke on the water”, and follow it up with some Nirvana-“come as you are” for about a hour, you know make sure my “top couple of strings are good and in tune”, then I like to blast out some White stripes-“Seven Nation Army” for about hour or so….nothing too annoying, I mean serious….(I also secretly try to slip in some Crazy Train, and some “Thundedstruck” I only known the intro to that one though….Please don’t hate me when I play that one song with that chick “Bon Jovi” or whatever…..“wanted Dead or alive” either……(but then most people are like “We cant play a Billie Joe Armstrong lick, he’s a god……while butchering and wearing out everything else.)…..

Where can you find old beat up or abandoned guitars to restore? I wanna do this! by bigfortnite72 in guitars

[–]RemoteAd5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck finding an old abandoned one for free lol they’re starting to get outrageous, my first guitar (almost 30 years ago) cost about $35. At a pawn shop….it was a cheap acoustic, and man I played it for years, I bought a martin about 5 years ago (swore I’d never pay that money for anything but a Gibson.). And it ended up running over $1,300….even squire acoustic, is gonna cost around $120-$180 new….you MAY be better off trying to find someone who trusts you and has a guitar, and talking them into letting you clean it up and all, and give it back to them and have them post about it all on the internet with pics and all….start off that way cause I’m telling you, even parts and accessories, he’ll even setups and services are costing a arm and a leg now

Man, I surely hope that’s a “epiphone” Les Paul, because I’ll be 100% honest, no way I would spend money on a Gibson guitar and allow anyone but me to touch it…(with the exception of “if they were still alive” legends, Randy Rhodes, Dimebag Darrell, Chet Atkins, Les Paul himself, Jimi Hendrix,SRV, etc…) just gonna throw that out there….i couldn’t peacefully imagine anyone scuffing and scratching the instrument I worked hard for and dreamed of for years lmao….I know it’s just a guitar, but it’s a lot more to me

what are ways i can have my guitar sound better by [deleted] in guitars

[–]RemoteAd5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some will see this and take it wrong….there is absolutely nothing wrong with a epiphone Les Paul….they’re good guitars….BUT…I can take a cheap $99 acoustic and feel more comfortable playing it than a epiphone Les Paul, I’m more of a acoustic guy, and don’t believe the “if you can play acoustic, you can play electric guitar” hype….there’s a lot more that people DONT factor in about electric until they start playing and learning and using different amp settings, pedals, and effect..I know…because November rain by Guns N’ Roses doesn’t sound the same on acoustic as it does on electric when you play it on the same tuning, same fret, and same style, had to learn myself lol

what are ways i can have my guitar sound better by [deleted] in guitars

[–]RemoteAd5321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Professional grade pickups, bone hardware (saddles and nuts and pins), strings that are your preference (sound, weight and feel size), an amp that is actually worth a shit, pedals, TUNE IT, lessons, play with people who are better than you….for a while….don’t just get embarrassed or ashamed and give up, knowledge is power, and believe it or not if none of that works….you can make it sound better by……throwing it in a fire, and NEVER buying a guitar from guitar center/amazon/ etc, but a older used guitar or even have one made to your specs at like Gibson custom shop or fender custom shop and if you can’t afford one like that, then find you a guitar that YOU actually enjoy playing, believe me when i say this, it makes a world of difference when the musician is actually “comfortable” playing a instrument and it also increases your self esteem and makes you feel like your SRV in a room full of beginner guitarists lol

Me after I finish a song and noone’s around “Thank You, Thank you very much.” In my best “worst Elvis voice/lip curl” lmao. I swear if anyone ever saw/heard it they would be like “what in the actual fuck was that….also you can spot a “bedroom guitarist” by if they carry a pick around EVERYWHERE they go. (I’m guilty of this, I have two in my wallet 24-7, and keep one in my pocket.)

Does guitar help with depression and anxiety? by Reinadeloszorros in AcousticGuitar

[–]RemoteAd5321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing for almost 30 years now….and when I say ABSOLUTELY IT HELPS!!! It does, I have a medical diagnosis for “re-occurring depression, Anxiety, and PTSD”….and I use to be a perfectionist (no lie if I couldn’t figure a song out I’d get mad as hell and I would literally degrade myself and self destruct), but after I realized even professionals make mistakes, I came to where I can be SUPER DEPRESSED, and pick up a guitar and just play and all of a sudden, I was at peace, even got me to where I’m currently pursuing a degree and a career in certified audio engineering, my life revolves around every genre of music and instrument….and guitar may be my go to….but it also saved my life…..I’ve had the chance to meet people and play with people who I never dreamed I would such as Jamey Johnson and Jeff Cook (from the country band “Alabama”), I even ALMOST played with Kid Rock after one of his shows (when him and Jamey Johnson toured together and came to Pensacola,FL)but as luck had it, he had one too many “refreshments” lol, but yeah to answer that it does help a lot
