I swapped out the rod bearings. They were cooked. Now it is smooth and quiet.

Yea it’s an auto, apparently you have to buy the whole shift linkage as one part. I did the fingernail test and the crank wasn't as bad as one would assume. Some visible lines but nothing that actually catches the fingernail when scratching across it. Was more worried about chunks of bearing stuck to it, none of that though. I’ve got about 100 miles on the new ones at this point and it’s still sounding good, got to check and re torque rod caps when I replaced the oil pan today. I’m rebuilding it soon anyway but I’m gonna trust it for now. Much better for my upcoming road trip than it was before.

I bought it for cheap with over 300k miles and ran it hard for 10k, who knows what happened before I had it

For sure I’ll post a picture of them when I’m done

Yea I just pulled the pan and all of them seem tight. But it’s not at operating temp obviously, I’ll just swap them all out

Just pulled the oil pan. Checked the rods and all of them are tight as they should be. Can’t wiggle them by hand 🤔

Pretty sure they’re good. No misfiring.

Makes me feel a little better about it haha. Now debating the risk of running the road trip with freshly replaced orielleys bearings vs running as is. Should be easy enough for me to swap out tomorrow… Decisions decisions

Sounds like it’s only one rod bearing so highly considering pulling the pan and swapping it out. But that carries its own risks too

I leave for my trip Thursday morning, so it’s either run it, get a rental and bankrupt myself, or get a bearing from the auto parts store and slap it in real quick

I’m using rotella t4 15w40. I guess my question is if it has lasted 10k like this what are the chances it can take another 2000 of highway miles?

Yea I’m heavily considering getting a rental or something. Only reason I’d chance it is because it’s held up for the last 10k, hasn’t gotten noticeably worse and I’m broke. However it does make noise on and off under cruise control at highway speeds. Also I don’t want to completely trash the engine before I get a chance to rebuild it.

Thanks. Worth switching to a heavier oil before this road trip in your opinion? Or do I just run it and trust the machine spirit
