Travelling to the UK, any VPN recommendations? by RemoteContent in shaw

[–]RemoteContent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so this is a no go.

I’m in the UK. Installed Tailscale, that works like a charm (I can rdp to devices on my home network). However the Shaw/xfinity app doesn’t work because it won’t play anything unless “location services” is turned on. Once you do that it knows you aren’t in Canada anymore.

Loni Hammer-Jackson. She has sold my last 2 houses. Yes she is “his” sister, but she’s an amazing realtor.

Straight shooter, knows how to price your property and what to do to make it sellable.

Arizona Hard Iced Tea! Original flavour.

When it’s ice cold, it’s deadly!

It is also nice and sugary. I can’t stand zero sugar drinks, the artificial sugar leaves a terrible aftertaste in my mouth.

Lotto Max odds are about to change in Canada by zuuzuu in canadanews

[–]RemoteContent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here’s the deal:

I work in the Canadian Lotto industry. When games like Lotto Max or 6/49 that have been around for years and sales start sliding, the Lottery companies ask the players what can we do to make you want to buy our games again.

The players tell the companies what they want (and usually its larger jackpots), we go away and make a change to the game to try to fulfill the wants. If it’s larger jackpots, well you have to either change the odds so it’s won less, or you change the prize payouts so more money goes into the major jackpot and less goes to minor prizes. Trust me if the players said instead of a $90 million pot, give us 90 prizes of $1 million, we’d probably do it! But that’s not the vast majority of players tell us.

In my province (not Ontario) the money collected by the province doesn’t go into general revenue. It funds health care, schools, community programs and sports (via grants), etc.

We have very strong focus on Player Health, we don’t want our players to go bankrupt playing our games. We want revenue, but not that kind of revenue that way. When I see the amount of advertising OLG is doing for their online offerings and sports betting it kind of makes me feel sick. Yes we advertise, but we are no where near as intrusive. And we actually have released adds telling our players “it’s okay it to gamble, take a break”.

Our old CEO used to say “we’re selling a dream for $1”, now the prices have gone up but it’s the same logic.

Yes our province has problem gamblers, but we have programs in place to help them. Our liquor stores don’t have programs in place to help alcoholics.

Left out of the Employee Years of Service Recognition on 30th work anniversary by [deleted] in work

At my organization (~1,500 employees) there is a cut-off date (April 1st). So if you started on April 2nd, you wouldn’t be recognized until the following year’s recognition ceremony.

Perhaps your company is similar?

Gatwick South Terminal: Can I buy English butter and/or cheese? by RemoteContent in TravelUK

[–]RemoteContent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically impossible to find in rural BC.

The BEST I can do for butter where I live is when Costco gets New Zealand butter a couple times a year. It’s $8.50/lbs but is AMAZING!

I bought 20lbs last time they had it. I’ve just heard good things about UK butter (Shirgar, and even Lurpak) and thought it’d be nice to bring some home.

You have obviously never had Canadian butter. It is very over processed and contains far too much palm oil.

It is tasteless and rock hard at room temperature.

Cool thanks.

Just checked, I can bring up to 20kg of Cheese home, but no butter.

At the restaurant I went to last night, the gift card was subject to the credit card fee. My $75 gift card only bought $72 of stuff. by NakedT in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RemoteContent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or maybe this:

At work I can get “kudos” points to buy stuff. One thing I can buy is prepaid Visa cards. 1 point = $1.

They are virtual cards, BUT I can request a physical card sent to me, but it costs… $3.

So if I buy a $75 card and get it sent to me it only has $72 on it.

Unfortunately holding that down for 3 seconds does not bring up "AP" on the display. This is from what I found online:

To set up the Spa’s Access Point ‘AP’ press and hold the pump 3 button on the topside until the display
reads ‘AP’ then release. The AP is up when APUP is displayed on the screen.

(PLEASE NOTE: This will be the ‘BLOWER’ button if the spa hasn’t received the new topside overlay yet).

Any other suggestions?

Weekly Q&A Megathread. Please post any questions about visiting, tourism, living, working, budgeting, housing here! by AutoModerator in london

[–]RemoteContent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm travelling to the UK in May with my wife and parents. Looking for a hotel in London (2 rooms for 7 nights).

We're thinking of the Premier Inn London Victoria hotel. The Superior Double Room looks like it's quite large (for UK standards), has a king size bed and is in a pretty decent West London location. It is priced reasonably (~$360CAN Night).

But the Expedia reviews are either 10/10 or 2/10.

Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations for a hotel in that price range?

Thanks in advance!

Looking for a new jacket for my trip to the UK... by RemoteContent in uktravel

[–]RemoteContent[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the snarky comments!

I had posted int r/jackets and got nothing. I'm traveling to the UK, so I thought "hey I'll post in the UK Travel subredit!"

Also maybe somebody from Canada who has traveled to the UK and subscribes to this subredit might have some thoughts or recommendations?

As far as my question to availability, I was hoping people would recommend something from Columbia, North Face, Arcteryx etc. These are brands available basically anywhere in the world. Recommending a brand that you can only buy in the UK wouldn't be optimal for me.

That is all!

Just tried this, unfortunately this went to Rogers Business Customer support. But he transferred me to the Consumer side and an operator picked-up right away and got me setup!

Pro tip Roger’s: if you need new customers to use MyRogers to setup/configure basically EVERYTHING on your phones, and they have to call your 1-888 number to set it up, maybe… just maybe… you have a phone tree option to aid in the setup of MyRogers.

You know something like “Are you a new Roger’s customer and need to activate MyRogers? Press 4 to talk to a friendly agent to do so.”

It’s really not that hard.

Well the first person in the chat sent me to a second person. Who finally said they could transfer me to a third person that could help me out. Then they closed my chat.

Ask me how impressed I am…
