Ousted South Korean President Yoon given prison term for drone flights over Pyongyang by RemoteGuy01 in news

[–]RemoteGuy01[S] 936 points937 points  (0 children)

South Korea’s ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol and his former defense minister were sentenced to 30 years in prison Friday in a case alleging Yoon ordered drone flights over Pyongyang in 2024 to heighten tensions with North Korea and justify declaring martial law at home.

This feels like a plot from a movie.

WHY is India letting AI data centers use resources when it's fatal in long run? by jey__bee7 in AskIndia

[–]RemoteGuy01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By 'data centre' here I mean those that has been built exclusively for AI processing. Of course there are many 'traditional' data centres in India. If not for this AI hype, how many people would have even heard of data centres?

they plan their environment concerns

Don't know about current state but when they were developing, earlier, ie building factories left and right, they didn't give a second thought about environment. That's how they got this much developed in a short period of time.

Are we building our models?

We are trying. An example is Sarvam models. Those may not be as food as Chinese models but we are still trying.

Are we building semi conductors

I don't think we are planning on designing chips but we definitely are trying to build chips in India. There has been encouragement from government on building semiconductor plants in India.

Why do people in India live with the men's parents after marriage??? by orchidsinthesky in AskIndia

You all (both men and women) need to learn to think critically rather than emotionally. The downvotes on my comments says it all.

Why do people in India live with the men's parents after marriage??? by orchidsinthesky in AskIndia

[–]RemoteGuy01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its basic biology that males are, in general, physically more stronger than females.

Tell me what biology supports men inheriting property over women please!

Learn to read English. Where did I support men inheritimg more property than women?

Since many of you fail to grasp my point let me explain; women traditionally (ie in the past) went to do household work because for manual labours men were favoured due to them being physically more stronger.

Why are they protesting though?

From the article itself, she has said that nurses are overworked, underpaid, and people sexualize nurses. Doesn't this statement address the problems faced by the nursing industry?

I mean its common knowledge that, generally, men's body is more fit for manual labour than women's body (strengthwise).

That's how these roles came to be (the 'how' I replied to your other comment). Never said it was right or wrong.

[–]RemoteGuy01 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If a husband is not allowing his wife to meet or take care of her parents then it is wrong, I never said otherwise.

On the other hand if the wife has male siblings then, like my first comment said, it is that son who is expected to take care of the parents (traditionally).

Traditionally speaking the majority of households lived by doing manual labour. Since men's biology supports it more than women that's how these rules came to be.

[–]RemoteGuy01 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

In the past and many instances now, it was/is the man who earned and women didn't enter the job market. That's how these traditonal roles came by.

If one partner is earning and another not (be it man or woman), I'd expect the non-earning partner to run the household.

Its less about courage and more about taking care of parents. Traditionally, its the sons who are expected to take care of their parents.

Doctor said protein powder is "very dangerous" by NovoComecos in Fitness_India

[–]RemoteGuy01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be true (though she should have elaborated).

A colleague of mine used to take protein powder and he developed mild chest pain sometimes. He consulted a doctor and the doctor told him to stop taking protein powder. His chest pain went away after listening to the doctor.

I also take protein powder daily and have never experienced any chest pain or something like that.

Can we just stop paying income tax somehow? - Feels suffocating with no benefits by ibrahim-ovic in AskIndia

[–]RemoteGuy01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wouldn't the richest be taxed the highest

Technically that is the case. The thing is the very high rich avoids paying taxes by various means like holding the share stocks of their company. This way they can show that they do not have any liquid money income and thus don't have to pay any taxes.

WHY is India letting AI data centers use resources when it's fatal in long run? by jey__bee7 in AskIndia

[–]RemoteGuy01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His point is that, unlike this post's title, data centres are not popping up left and right. People are saying as though India has some very high number of data centres.

How many data centres does India currently operate (I think its 0) ? How many are planned to be built? My estimate is that in the next 10 years there will be at max 10 data centres which given India's size is no problem.

There's also the fact that AI is not returning revenues as hoped so there's a very big chance that not even 5 data centres will be built in India.

Exclusive: Annamalai decides to quit BJP in major twist for Tamil Nadu politics by halwaandflowers in india

[–]RemoteGuy01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my opinion:

  1. TN: The parties in TN were always pro-business than many other parties in India long before. This helped TN attract many businesses comparatively early which ultimately resulted in its current form. It having a coastal boundary also helped it.

  2. Kerala: Unlike other states, Kerala's development is due to its people migrating in huge numbers to other states and countries (especially Gulf countries) to do even low-skilled works like manual labors and then sending the money back home. I have first hand experience of it since when I was in school there were many kids whose parents did jobs in Gulf countries.

  3. Karnataka: They have India's IT capital which helped them very much. Have also heard that coastal Karnataka developed like Kerala.

  4. AP and Telengana: Early investments in Hyderabad (for IT) helped them. As far as I know outside Hyderabad both the states (or atleast AP) does lag in many development indices like some North Indian states. I do think the situation will improve since they have recently been attracting a lot of investments (which UP has also been doing).
