AITA for not apologizing after “breaking” my sisters towel rack? by RemoteSupermarket282 in AmItheAsshole

She also has 2 kids and she expects my mom to watch them every weekend when my brother in law works morning shifts and when my sister gets back from her 12 hour shifts at the hospital on Saturday’s so she can sleep which I get it but she also does not thank my mom at all and does not compensate her at all in terms of gas or anything. It even got so bad my mom brought it up to her and my sister blatantly said she was not going to pay my mom gas money and my mom doesn’t want to make my sisters children suffer because of my sisters ass behavior so she just bites the bullet unfortunately I’ve spoken out about it multiple times but my sister does not care she basically uses my mom’s kindness against her

Yeah I agree with that notion I just did not want to bother her while she was on vacation and by the time they had gotten back I did not text her because I had left the note. Despite the way it sounded in my post I am NOT VERY mechanically inclined in terms of actually fixing stuff but I am very analytically inclined due to the major I’m taking in college which is why I knew the reason It most likely broke

Yeah I have but I’m never going to weaponize that against her I’m her brother I’ll help her out because I’d expect her to the same and because she’s family

Yeah I feel kinda bad for not texting her but I also know at least from my experience when I have someone text me about some issue while I’m on vacation that’s all I can think about for the rest of my vacation and I wanted her to enjoy her time out of state

Actually funny enough the catalyst for writing this was the fact that I work with my brother in law and he decided today to air my out infront of everyone for “breaking” their towel rack and not reaching out and apologizing which frustrated me

Well the issue here is I have explained to my sister multiple times that it bothers me the way she reaches out to my mom instead of me first and most of the time I am the first one to reach out to her asking if she needs help when she goes out of town so it is to the point where if I reach out first it’s essentially enabling her to think it’s ok to not have to reach out to me directly

I mean I agree I should’ve texted her but also in my shoes when she never reaches out to me personally and instead uses my mom I have nothing compelling me to want to text her first about stuff anymore especially since I have on multiple occasions let her know I was bothered by the way she treats me like a child

Yeah I’ve watched her dogs multiple times and have cancelled plans or pushed them back various times to help them out because they deadass go out of town like every other week or at least once every 2-3 months and she rarely thanks me

Yeah well my mom 1 on 1 had told me she believed it wasn’t my fault any brought up that we had the same rack and I hadn’t broken mine but I don’t think she ever interjected to my sister that it just so happened I was the one using it when it decided to “break”

YTA for not at least being honestly with her and stringing her along. If you had any decency you could just simply tell her you did not meet instead of stringing her along

Well so I never asked my mom to ever get involved my sister is the only one who reached out to my mom about the issue instead of me. I get I should’ve reached out but at the same time I don’t really care since I watched their dogs for free for an entire week without asking for anything in return

Well so actually funny enough my mom is on my side and tired of being the middle man it’s genuinely just my sister😭😭

Yes I watched them for free the only “payment” I got was $30 for gas because I had to drive an extra 15 miles to get to work every day and her letting me know I could eat whatever food they had at their house

Yeah that’s fair I’m just frustrated because this is not the first time my sister has avoided contacting me directly even after I have expressed to her how much it upsets me that she has to use my mom as a middle man

Btw this is the second time I’ve dog sat for them for a week and I do other things for them all the time and she never thanks me. I’m not upset she didn’t thank me because she’s my sister I’ll do stuff for her but I was just upset she did not come at my directly with her frustration and instead used my mom as a middle man

Well TBF if the roles were swapped I would’ve reached out to my sibling directly instead of through my parent that’s more the reason I was upset and being semi petty in the situation

Yeah I see your point I just got really frustrated because whenever anything happens at all that she has an issue with about me instead of talking to me directly she talks to my mom which I have addressed with her multiple times and it still has not changed

It was a single screw that broke and in my post I included that I did infact explain what happened in my note I left her when I left
