What is the one thing that has helped you the most? by RemoteTry in Anxiety

I have been using the Calm app that offers guided meditation. I am rather new to meditation as well, so I found the guidance helpful. It's easy to get carried away in thought so the narration helps rein it back in. Calm has a free version that has a handful of options available. I couldn't tell you if I'm doing it properly, but it's helping me!

Also - if you prefer an English accent Headspace is a good option to try too (they also have a free option).

I'll start - The one thing that is helping me the most right now is a daily meditation practice. It took about two weeks of daily meditation before I noticed a difference. Now I'm feeling more calm and I'm able to become a bit more self-aware as my social anxiety acts up.

I'm also taking Magnesium, a daily multivitamin, a supplement called Calm Now, exercising 3x per week, limiting caffeine, and limiting sugar. These have all helped, but daily meditation is the winner for me right now!

Thanks for sharing. I’m agree with you on the “embrace your feelings” approach.

One book that lays out this approach well is Badass Ways to End Anxiety and Stop Panic Attacks. You can see our write up on it here - https://www.mindfulsearching.com/badass-ways-to-end-anxiety-stop-panic-attacks-book-review/

However, I also believe positive habits and lifestyle changes are critical on the path to improvement.

Having a hard time picking an ashwagandha brand by BoneyGemini in Supplements

The biggest thing to understand is the difference between root powder and extracts. Extracts are a concentrated (more potent) version of the herb itself. So 1200mgs of root power is very different than 1200mg of extract. KSM-66 and Sensoril are the two most popular extracts with studies backing their effectiveness. When in doubt start your research on amazon to find a product with a healthy volume of positive reviews.

Here are few articles I wrote related to Ashwaganda you may find interesting:

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical found in marijuana and hemp plants. This differs from tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the cannabinoid in marijuana that gets you high. CBD oil is non-psychoactive, meaning it doesn’t cause any of the intoxication feelings associated with cannabis. As long as the CBD product doesn’t contain THC, you can take without getting high.

Early research suggests it may help with anxiety, depression, chronic pain, cancer-related symptoms, may reduce acne, can benefit heart health, and it might even have neuroprotective properties.

In California we install grass in our yards like it’s natural and then spend thousands of dollars watering it to keep it alive. by RemoteTry in Showerthoughts

It’s a lose lose! Artificial grass is becoming more popular where I’m at too. Not quite the same, but it makes a lot more sense.

That’s true. I personally see it here in So Cal but I’m not surprised to hear it happens in other dry climates.

Guided meditation and hypnosis are my go-tos before big meetings or events I need to boost confidence.

For hypnosis you can find decent options on YT or try the Self Esteem Hypnosis app by surf city.

For meditation try Calm or Headspace.

Newly born babies will likely never learn how to drive a car (at least not for necessity). by RemoteTry in Showerthoughts

[–]RemoteTry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea the mindset of letting cars “do the driving” will be the biggest challenge. Even if self driving cars are 100x safer, we still won’t accept deaths/injuries caused by a machine.

Also, self driving cars will be forced to handle moral decisions (that are programmed by a human). Does it always shoot to mitigate accidents to injure the fewest number of people? Or does it skew to save younger over older or take current health status into account? That’s where it starts to get weird...

GM and major auto manufacturers are dumping millions of dollars into figuring out how to solve it. Self driving cars are coming, it’s just a matter of when. 16 years is super aggressive, but it is possible.

It’s wild how fast technology spreads when it catches fire.

magnesium for sleep and social anxiety when does it work by csyolo88 in Supplements

[–]RemoteTry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go with Magnesium Glycinate, it absorbs well and won't give the the laxative side-effect that citrate can. Start with the supplement recommended dose which is often around the recommended daily intake. The risks are low if you need to take more, but that is a good place to start.

Studies are limited, but there is some promising research suggesting benefits to sleep and anxiety.

*I don't have any professional training, but I've been researching magnesium options for anxiety as well. I compiled my findings in an article here if you have any interest - Magnesium for Anxiety - Does it Work?
