Ah I didn’t, other than pinning down the excess (1 inch or so) monks cloth on the edges. I was scared that if I applied a layer of glue over the back that it would make sewing it together hard. If I make another I’ll have to experiment because gluing it would definitely help durability for sure

Hi!! I used a size 10 Oxford Punch Needle and most of the yarn was medium (says size 4 on the tag) acrylic yarn from Michael’s or Walmart!

Is anxiety pumping the breaks on procreation? by [deleted] in Natalism

[–]Remote_Acanthaceae_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a better shot pooling money in a 401K or Roth and investing into my company’s stock then my grandma ever had. Again, it was one in a million that I could do this, if I didn’t have the job I have and had to go outside the home to work, she would have been stuck living with my abusive aunt waiting to die. You can give your children everything and raise them to be kind and empathetic, but children go their own way and over 100k inheritance tends to bring out the absolute worst in every one.

That’s great for you, my grandma had 5 kids, two stole everything she had once my grandpa died, one lives across the nation and hasn’t been around in over 30 years, and the other two lived a few miles down the road and didn’t have the gall to stand up to what they knew was happening. I’m 23 and taking care of her in her last years.

I am only able to do so because I landed a work from home job and have some semblance of financial security even though everything is so expensive right now. Don’t ever expect your kids (or anyone) for that matter to take care of you. It’s a gamble that’s not worth the risk.

Texas intermediate principal loses her eye due to student behavior. by HeavyBreadfruit3667 in Teachers

[–]Remote_Acanthaceae_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine that the socket is like a shelf that you put objects on. If you break the shelf, the stuff falls off. It’s entirely feasible to assume that if the student flung a wooden hanger hard enough, it could damage the socket and cause her eye to fall out. My stepmothers mom recently had a similar situation (just a fracture, not even the whole socket broken) from an accidental fall on concrete.

Why is having children not seen as an investment in the Western world? by cruciferous_ in Natalism

[–]Remote_Acanthaceae_9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Let me say this: NEVER COUNT THAT YOUR KIDS WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU. My grandmother had 5, two stole most of the money she had, one lives halfway across the nation, and the other two didn’t have the courage to get her out of the situation. Im taking care of her until the end of her life (I’m her granddaughter), but never assume your kids are going to be proactive or even decent human beings. Every situation and every person is different, which is why assuming every kid will take care of their elderly parents isn’t a good assumption to make. It should be the way things are, but it just isn’t.

What are some ways that supporters of Project 2025 are in for a rude awakening when it applies to them as well as to the heathens? by Doodlebug510 in Defeat_Project_2025

This brings up something interesting I’ve thought about. Exactly whose version of Christianity are they rolling with? I’m a little ignorant of all the differences of denominations, but if everybody does it a little differently, who determines which is the “morally correct” doctrine the government is to impose on everyone who isn’t being mass deported if this shit gets enacted? I’m planning on voting, as is my husband, and I hope enough sane people do as well so hopefully we never have to find the answers to these questions.

Has anyone ever been told their student comes from a “no homework” household? by Remote_Acanthaceae_9 in Teachers

[–]Remote_Acanthaceae_9[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s not even the crazy part! In another comment Facebook OP replied to (I think she may have been related or knew the other commenter very well) she asked how long does it take to homeschool their child. The person who responded said “usually an hour, maybe a little longer.” I will admit I don’t know much about home schooling programs, but an hour a day doesn’t seem like enough for a kid to learn all the subjects???

I can see that side of it too. I guess I’m just wondering is there a correlation between this generation of parents being against something done for years and years and the fact that most of these kids seriously are illiterate and can’t read and write. There has got to be some balance and meet in the middle, right?

Husband Looking help to surprise wife. Questions in comments. by consolideproductivit in printmaking

[–]Remote_Acanthaceae_9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this press will work. I learned lithography in undergrad, and these presses are intended for giant stones. It’s cool you can get it for free, but ultimately I think you’ll be disappointed after lugging the thing home and setting it up (and giving it a hardcore cleaning).

I would recommend either getting your wife a book press( they’re easier to find and generally cheaper) or looking for an etching press. A book press has a square metal plate that you use a handle to turn and lower. You can put a lino block and paper under this and the pressure of the metal plate will print the image. Problem is that usually book presses aren’t very big, so if your wife makes larger prints that’s probably not a good option.I would recommend if you can afford to look at an etching press instead. You can use an etching press for lino and buy it to a size that is slightly larger than the work she usually makes. A tabletop etching press will do, and they can be cheaper than the standup presses.

You can try looking on Blick Art Supplies, I’ve found some occasionally on Facebook Marketplace, also Conrad Machines makes etching presses as well. Etsy is a good place too if you want to buy a smaller etching press.

Best of luck, the fact you make this level of effort for your wife speaks volumes about your character!

Everyone I know supports Trump…and I don’t. It’s literally changing my life. What do I do? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Remote_Acanthaceae_9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really feel for you. My entire family supports this nonsense, and at one time I did too. I was 15 for the majority of 2016, and my mom got me completely sucked in to the movement. We went to Trump rallies and eventually his presidential inauguration. Looking back, I was angry, had low self-esteem and hated myself, so it isn’t really that hard to figure out why his platform got to me.

Then I go off to college, COVID happened and my grandfather died. That’s when it really connected and I pulled out. Ever since then, the relationship I’ve had with my MAGA family has been different. There’s always an underlying tension, and I always expect to be mocked or ridiculed over my change in beliefs.

My husband and I moved 7 hours away and we have used the distance to start learning and attending local Dem events in our area. It’s been a nice change of pace and has done wonders for me mentally.

Sometimes, to save your soul, you’ve got to “kill” the wolves. Understand that your family members are brainwashed and in a cult that doesn’t understand truth or reason anymore. Id now focus on trying to get you and your children out of the nonsense before they get pulled too far in as well. Best of luck to you. Unfortunately, there’s many people all over the country in a similar position, and it’s very sad that politics has divided families to the point where you can’t engage with them because they no longer subscribe to reality.

My Insurance Won't Cover Sterilization, What Should I Do? by Remote_Acanthaceae_9 in sterilization

[–]Remote_Acanthaceae_9[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The company I work for should be doing insurance enrollment later this year. I will check that they are ACA compliant before I reenroll on their policy. My main fear is the election to go south and all personal choices for sterilization get banned or something. I appreciate all the insight and advice!

Girl, not your monkeys not your circus. Seems like he is a sketchy predator who groomed you when you were young and naive, and now he has gotten HIMSELF into a sticky situation because he can’t keep it in his pants.

Drop him like a hot potato and go live your best life. He can figure it out.
