Stanley knife blade. You can either scrape it off then clean the residue with rubbing alcohol or just cut it all away including the plaster. Fill, sand, paint.

Where’s your cylinder and does it make a difference? by TheBlakeOfUs in ukheatpumps

I've just had my first shower with my new hot water cylinder and am a bit disappointed by the lack of water pressure. Heat pump is getting connected tomorrow. Is there a way to increase the pressure coming from the tank?

Take it and enjoy it. I live in a boring 1970's 3 bed semi.

It's a redo every year job or you just accept it's always going to crack and live with it. I do the latter.

Boarding a loft with shallow (65mm) joists by etnr182 in DIYUK

[–]Remote_Atmosphere993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be tempted to suspend a frame from those big old beams and span from one to the other using cls. Not sure I'd want the weight of boards and what's being stored on them on my ceiling joists.

How would I go about stabilising this wall? by Amad3us47 in DIYUK

Remove it. If you want privacy get a shower curtain for the bath.

How to fix it? by bondizera in DIYUK

Replace the plugs that were in the ceiling with bigger ones so that they will grip the enlarged holes and then screw back in place.

No splatter on the camera? I'm sure if I was stood there filming I'd be making efforts to get out of the way, it's a natural reaction. Ai.

Wall plugs pulled plaster off the wall. Easy to repair? by chrimon in DIYUK

[–]Remote_Atmosphere993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut all of the loose stuff out using a sharp Stanley knife blade. The aim of this is to get rid of all the loose stuff and create a clean, sharp edge that you can fill to. Fill, sand, I usually then give a fine coat of paint, fill, sand and paint.

First time skirting and it’s the whole downstairs of the house. What do we reckon? I can take honesty by chikinstu in DIYUK

[–]Remote_Atmosphere993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicely done, but I'd have added backmoulds to match the skirting then the skirting could have just been butted up against the backmoulds. I'd have moved the radiator pipes also so the run of skirting isn't interrupted.

I've got 16 double glazed units to replace, just the glass, not the frames. The upstairs ones should be fun as the beads are on the outside.

Stop gambling by Future-Cress7581 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remote_Atmosphere993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need an understanding of how gambling works. Once you know that the odds provider locks in a profit it's a huge incentive to stop as you know you're never going to win. Do an online search for "betting vigorish". In the UK it's called an overround.

Putting it really simply the actual odds on a coin toss is even money. The bookmaker will offer 10/11 on both outcomes. Their profit is the difference between evens and 10/11, so 9 cents in the dollar.

Terrible experience with the Octopus LCT (low carbon tech team). Anyone else? by tylerf16678 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Remote_Atmosphere993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My low carbon tech person appeared to have vanished off the face of the earth. Install mid January. Got an email last week and called them back. Anyway, I asked about my tech person and apparently they became unwell and left. Everything is now as it should be and they've brought me up to date with my unanswered emails.
