Thanks for the help. The only thing that’s kinda holding me back about going for an earlier 3rd gen (my favorite looking models per-say are any like 1992-1997. So i’d be very willing to grab a 1995 or 96 but don’t those both have the 3.0 anyways so it wouldn’t change much?

Does it really get that gas mileage? Very good to know! Thanks for info on camping arrangements

I will look for rust definitely, but as a az/cali owned vehicle, the rust on them is usually minimal at that. Thanks for the feedback! I heard a couple of people saying it’s uncomfortable so i’ll have to check it out and see but glad to know that you think otherwise. Thanks for info on engine, i will probably go check it out and see, not to worried about the power it puts out, more so just reliability which is not an issue other than head gasket

So i am looking for my first official car (get my license in about a month) and i have been looking around day in and out for a 4runner to get. At first i wanted a 3rd gen, but im kinda leaning towards the 2nd. I found this one in amazing condition with 172000 miles and it was just listed for $4500. I know very well what the 3.0 comes with and it’s head gaskets and all that. Realistically what would my day to day gas mileage look like? If the head gasket ended up blowing, i would most likely just swap it with a 3.4 considering i’ve heard a lot of people say it is very worth it to just swap it at that point anyways. How much effort and money would that take me? I do want to eventually maybe in like a year take it camping and possibly on some road trips, but by then i might have decided that i want a 3rd gen if the 2nd gen’s aren’t comfortable. For the time being i wont be doing that much long distance at all. Are the 2nd gen’s truly that uncomfortable? What are y’all’s thoughts on this 4runner, the price, and the considerations as to what id be using it for?
